Classic & Vintage - Peugeot Super Competition...

Thanks for looking, there is another thing i would like to ask the experts: i bought this one on ebay for 180€ including shipping. It is a 81 super competition i think, but i'm not sure. are the components all original? the things were i'm not sure are a selle royal strada saddle and the brakes: marfac levers with weinmann brakes.

The first digit of the serial number, probably following an initial "B," is the last digit of the year of manufacture. Your paint and decal scheme is very similar to that of my 1980 PKN-10, but the colour of your PEUGEOT downtube decals differs a bit from mine. Mine has Galli sidepull calipers, which I recommend very highly, but I do not know whether they are original. (I bought the bike used ca. 19903.) It also has anachronistic Shimano aero brake handles, which were installed on a set of decidedly non-original bizarre aero bars.

As for your unusual mix of Mafac levers and Weinmann calipers, although Peugeots through the mid-1970s were distinctly and exclusively French, except for Brooks Pro saddles on U.S. export PX-10s, later models began to sport Weinmann brakes, often rebranded as "Peugeot."

The "history channel" of the PX-10 website, which you can access in the "French Quarter" of classicrendezvous.com, lists Mafac and Weinmann brakes on various high-end Peugeots of 1979, 1980, and 1982, so I figure your bike could have come with either.

Wow! Another Super Comp! Looks like mine except for the color of the decals. Mine is also an '81. look at the bottom of the BB to see the serial number. The first digit after the letter is the year so if it starts with 1xxx xxx then you do have an '81. Is that 180 euro's or pound's? if it's euro's then you might have a steal there, depending on the condition. Although from the looks of it, it seems to be in great shape. Congrats on a great buy! to Bikingfool: Yes i bought the bike for 180 EURO... to be precise - i payed 141€ for the bike and 40€ for shipping. I took a look on Yours and i must say You own a real beauty. It is always a pleasure to look on a fancy "Super Competition"!!! The condition of mine is only almost as good as Yours (some storage marks thats all, it is really barely ridden) only the rims won't shine anymore. Do You have any adwise for me how to make them shine again - is there any aluminium polish availible? By the way it is a 1981! i couldn't post any better pics, because i'm not able to compress the images with photoshop without losing to much quality! Anyway, as You can see, there is one thing that is different from Your bike: my front detailer is not mounted around the seattube like Yours. It it is mounted with a screw directly into the seattube. Oh god i love this bike - even if its a little to big for me, i ride it all the time.
