Hey there,

I've been reading bike advice on these forums for awhile and joined today now that I have a bike and went out for a first ride today.

I ended up circumventing the fun of bike buying. Instead I inherited a bike from an older brother who passed away a few months ago. He was an active guy and loved his bike riding. So I now have a Giant Cadex from the mid 90s. Early carbon framing (carbon tubes bonded to aluminum), nice components --shimano 600--the ultegra of that time, from what I learned on these forums. ;) And a friend has encouraged me to train with her to do my first sprint triathlon next spring. My brother would be proud. Now I just need to get used to the clipless look pedals (I met the pavement from a standstill twice today--nice.)

So, glad to be here. I'll probably be asking questions more than dispensing advice at first. And just talking about riding hopefully.

Rick

I'd love to meet some other riders in my area as well.

Sounds like your brother meant a lot to you. Mine does to. Welcome to the forums and I wish I could do some riding up in NC. Was at Tsali in May. I loved every minute of it.

Yeah, I hear that Tsali is really great. My friend Terri has been talking it up and I think we're going up this Fall to ride.

Welcome to the forums Re-Cycler. I was just out there in Raleigh, I flew out of your airport to San Francisco and back again 10 days later. We were over in Kinston visiting my daughter. N.C. is a nice place to ride in, I did CNC in 2000. That year the route was from Boone to Wilmington, the weather began cold but ended up being perfect for most of the week's ride.

Hello Re-Cylcer,
I just registered on the forum as well, I live in Apex. We can get in a lot of miles in in the country around here-did 35 yesterday morning early. You'll have head out to the "Peak of good living" to ride sometime!

Thanks for the invite, carter1. My little brother and his wife live out there off of Olive Chapel Rd., which seems to be right on the edge of where alot of good bike riding starts. So i'll take you up on the offer, after I get used to the bike a little more. Like I mentioned, I'm dealing with an older set of Look pedals (before adjustable tension) and it's my first time using clipless. So once my comfort level is up (or I replace the pedals), I'll be ready to go.

Any advice from anyone on the clipless issue would be helpful. Perhaps I'll post that question in the proper forum.
