I swear I saw a kid with a fishing rod chasing another kid, plus two more kids pretending to fight each other.
Also a fruit juice freighter in the background.

yeah because things in the cycling world should never evolve....
you DO know what BMX bikes evolved from right?

they weren't being used for their "intended" purpose either. But people found a fun way to use them and things went from there. A new sport developed from it.
700cmx is taking off and the new frames really don't look anything like what people were using even 5 years ago. Let it happen man, it's all fun. Don't be such a grouch about it.

look at the trick before the one minute mark.
fixed gears can do tricks no bmx can do, and vice versa.

people do tricks on mountain bikes too :crash:. And bmx was designed for a purpose much like the new trick fgfs frames that are coming out. Then what else did we get from bmx and mtb... hmmm 100mm travel forks on bmxs = dirt jump, and what does that leave us with? Even more tricking on different platforms.

On a related note, saw this at BFF a year or so ago, really interesting movie (even if DH/MTB isn't your thing).

The proliferation of purpose built dirt jumping bikes has never stopped people from doing it on mountain bikes. No reason people can't do freestyle on fixed gear bikes. (Just like they were doing back at the turn of the 20th century.)

yes they do. an oldie and I'm sure most have seen it, but hey, maybe it will give the "tricks are only for BMX" crowd something to think about:

Sure. I only criticize when they start making and promoting videos of lame tricks like in the OP.
Back in MY day, you had to actually land the tricks to get a video part. Half of the tricks were not landed and he only did 2 or 3 tricks in the whole video. Not worthy of a video part. Sorry.
To those making and selling not-so-great fixie trick videos: Grow a pair. Get a BMX bike. Do some real tricks.

I don't mind the new generation of fixed-bmx(700cmx or whatever), while it's not for me I see no harm in people trying something new, or at least trying something old on a new vehicle. The kid was fairly talented and did some neat stuff, if this gets more people riding bikes then who really cares?
Anyways, sweet wheelies.

I get that, and it does suck to keep seeing the same old trick repeated endlessly, but not everyone is an innovator. I just get annoyed by people criticizing the use of fixed gears because they're not proper trick bikes. Whatever, it's something new and may live or it may die. It gets people outside to do something, doesn't it?

Problem is the video sucks. Next problem is that you can do every one of those tricks on a bmx. It's easier on a fixed gear yes.
The really big problem? Welcome to 1984. Those tricks are soooo old and nothing new. Its just old tricks on a rediscovered and newly styled bike type. I'm all for doing something new and innovative, but everything I see here has been done when I was a teenager by Pat Romano et al. Now go watch Quicksilver.

by that same logic almost all of the tricks that have been done are being done over and over again on bmx in different places. The same thing with FGFS is going on right now, i do not see what the problem is. As for the video sucking, that is subjective and completely your opinon (which you are entitled to), but to simply say that they can do every one of those tricks on a bmx, is ignorant. So what? I can do a 180 on a bmx, but a 180 on something with big tires and big rims looks ballin' too me, not to mention it handles differently. As long as people will continue to be bored, people will find different things to trick on.
what, were you hoping for a barspin mega flip on a fixed gear or something? the human body has physical limitations, so forgive me if something does not exactly blow your mind as being new, or innovative. You should try doing those tricks sometime. I doubt that you will find them boring or easy and bland when you are attempting them. I think trying different tricks on different mediums and different environments constitutes innovation for me. At the end of the day, it's about the stupid, funny, crazy, and new things that you can do with your friends, not how much you sit in front of your computer and complain about a new niche sport.
sometimes i feel like fixed gear riders don't have enough love in their lives.

I have done all those tricks. I was pro freestyler for many years. I'm still not impressed.
I rode coaster brake and switched brakes just so I could do different moves. again, nothing here floats my boat. Notice the et al with regards to Pat Romano. Tricks like this have been done for almost 100+ years.
Get back to me when hipster fixed freestyle starts doing something new that some 15 year old German girl did 10 years ago in lycra or hasn't already been done on a bicycle.
I'm all for self promotion and making videos, but don't claim this is good stuff because it has a band no one has ever heard in the soundtrack.

FGFS is a niche because it fills a void that bmx leaves in the tricking world. Riding to your spots is much more comfy and quick. Bmx with a slammed saddle is not comfortable for riding out to your spot and having fun. "Messengers" started tricking on their free time between deliveries.
it's obvious you have your set opinion on the matter. I've been riding bikes for 17 years and I love every minute of it, tricking, riding, relaxing.
Do you have any vids of your riding? not looking to poke fun either, I'm really interested. Those videos you posted are impressive, but have you actually attempt many tricks fixed?

85% of us cant do anything in the OP
most of us just ride and thats cool enough for us
the kid was fun to watch
bunnyhoping on a FG is hard enough
dont know why it suprises me when folks hate on stuff for no reason but to make themselves sound better to themselves
its a shame
good stuff kid
...the only lame thing in the vid was the kid trying to look cool smoking a cigarette

This isn't a new sport. Doing tricks on a road/track bike is one thing but if this roadbike/bmx thing continued to evolve as you say we would end up with bikes built with easily maneuverable frames and sturdy wheels capable of withstanding damage. Thing is they've already been invented. BMX bikes.

We've seen this with mountain bikes. The park bikes just look like oversize bmx bikes.
Go buy a 24" cruiser and stick a flip flop hub and skinny tires on it. You'll have a bike from 2015. No wait, 1985.

Sick. Those moves got style. Kids comin' up in the real world, not behind a TV. Gotta love that. haters gon hate and nothing wrong with that. difference here versus any other place is that the more people on bikes (even doing bar spins off 7 stair gaps or sitting in a recumbent with a wind shield) the better, son! Human power exceeds all.

My favorite part is when the kid is smoking a cigarette. What a total badass. I mean the word 'cigarette' on it's own just oozes badassery, doesn't it? Stick one in a kid with floppy hair and girl pants on's lips and it takes it to a whole new level of fear-inducing manliness!
