Husband and I are planning to tour the UK and Europe, from April 2011 for an indefinite period. Any advice on wintering in this area would be great as we are not used to the cold. We live in Queensland Australia with winter temperatures averaging 9 to 21 degrees Celsius (48 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit)so it will be a big change for us. Any suggestions, hints and tips would be most welcome.

Almost tropical Queensland to northern Europe will be a shock.. Chilly rains and grey skies are typical winter weather.. Even some snow should you find yourself in the low countries and Germany.. We choose the south of France. It's said south of the Loire you might enjoy year round cycling.. In that case the further south the better..
Here in Roussillon , France our worst winter weather is about a 3-10 degree day average and cycling is pretty much all year. That being in January and February.. Roussillon gets slightly over 300 days of sunshine per year with the worst factor denying us cycling days are the winter winds..
Other EU winter hangouts. southern Spain and the South of Portugal.. After all they grow oranges from Roussillon south.
