Bicycle Mechanics - Spin Doctor Stand and Wheel Truing

I really need help on this one. I bought a Fuji Roubaix Pro and got a truing stand with it for free. It's the spin doctor stand from performance bike http://www.performancebike.com/bikes//Product_10052_10551_1030340_-1___
I tried to attach the rear wheel to it but the cassette keeps me from being able to do so. Is there some secret to doing this that I am unaware of? Thank you for reading and I appreciate any assistance.

One of the "More Details" pics for the stand shows a rear wheel with cassette mounted to the stand. Check that to see what's wrong. Are the guides on the top mounted 180 degrees off??

I have used that stand dozens of times on wheels with cassettes. Its a great truing stand for the price (in your case, free, can't beat that price). I got mine basically for free as well, the seller threw it in for free with a used bike repair stand I bought. I would just take the wheel and stand to the Performance store and have them show you how to use it.

If I was running a bike shop, I would get a better stand, but for medium to heavy homeowner use, it is more than sufficient.

The legs of the stand mount just like the dropouts on your bike. So be sure to spread them enough to hold your wheel. Wider wheels need the legs spread out further. Loosen the QR skewer, and the wheel will mount right into place.

Based on the Performance pics, the left axle holder in the illustration seem oriented properly to clear the cassette but the right side one isn't. Check to be sure these holders on your stand are oriented correctly. Also, the axle holders are probably thicker than the dropouts on your bike so either remove the qr skewer or back off the nut enough to allow it to clear the holders.

The legs of the stand spread apart. (front wheel hubs are narrower than rear wheel hubs) Keep the quick release on the wheel and clamp it down lightly when the wheel axle is set into the ends of the legs.

The wheel can be mounted on the stand with the cogs on the left side or the right side.
