Introductions - Dunte Hector, barefoot running junkie, new cyclist, PT, & lover of all things pasta!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello hello Bike Forums family.

The name is Dunte. I've stalked around this forum for the last 9-10 months or so, picking up little tips working on cycles and such.

I'm a mechanical engineering undergrad in west Texas, generally interested in bicycling dynamics. I'd really love to make a career out of this cycling business and help bring realization to the "road bike for the masses" concept--while being stronger, lighter, and faster than the bikes of today!

I, like many many many other poor kids, started off on Wal-Mart mountain bikes and bashed, crashed, and smashed several throughout my childhood. Last year I borrowed a 1980s era Panasonic road bike (so stripped of paint & decal that I'm actually unsure of the year and have no way of knowing the model) and took up road cycling and know that I can never really look back.

Apparently, though, I can kind of look back because I'm on a Wal-Mart variety Kent GMC Denali these days (which I have no issue taking completely apart and rebuilding from time to time) until I graduate and piece together the cash to get the Jamis I've been eyeing (unless another steals me away).

I make my money as a freelance personal trainer in the area (and incidentally work the university gym as well); between training (which, as a blend of fitness & teaching is possibly the most "me" job I've ever found), attending class, prototyping new bicycle designs in Inventor, playing with my baby girl, and training for a triathlon (still a terrible swimmer), I can't honestly say I find myself bored at any time.

Hopefully I can make a few contributions to this forum...if not, I'll just continue stalking as a very quiet member!

If you have any questions about me, they're probably summed up well at http://www.thefitlife.me/ (my Lifestyle Fitness blog) or just shoot me a message!

Cheers!

Welcome to BikeForums. Nice intro. :thumb:
Sorry you're stuck on a WalMart bike. :o
Gotta agree with you about steel. My last commuter (before I retired) was a Jamis Nova (steel).

Ron, the Jamis Satellite sings to my heart in serious ways. I'll be honest, I'm not entirely a steel purist (open-mind due entirely to engineering education I say!) because the Ventura Sport is very attractive. I'm no dedicated racer (yet) but the appeal of aluminum when you expect to go fast and go hard the whole time...is pretty serious.

No less, thanks for the welcome! Don't feel too bad about my WM excursions--I've gotten pretty used to taking things apart, and I know now to grease bearings & adjust breaks before spending a week in the saddle of a cheap ride!!

Hopefully, this is the genuine beginning of my car light/care free lifestyle (no typo) :)
