Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anyone install a freewheel on a S3X yet?

I've been having knee problems, so I was hoping to install a freewheel on my S3X rear wheel. I've tried an ACS Claws and an ENO and both bottom out threads about 2mm shy of the dust cover. Plus neither of them clear the dropout. Anyone else try to do this yet?

I think they make a non fixed version. I heard they're pretty rare though so good luck finding one.

Yeah, I know it's supposed to be possible. The problem is that the threaded freehub body is longer than a freewheel is deep, causing the freewheel to bottom out before it clears the axle locknut. I'm guessing that no one else has actually tried this configuration and mostly regurgitating the same info I've already read.

You're saying that the FW stands out too proud of the hub body to clear the locknuts? Whats the measurement from the outside of the hub body to the outside of the lock nut.? I've got some old quality FWs in the drawer that may work.

It figures they didn't build these hubs to accomodate a FW...(yeah, duh, I know)

you can get a 3 speed sturmey off of a cruiser for the ten bucks it costs to buy one

My buddy has one, with a shimano 16T BMX freewheel.
it works fine.

I did read, it doesn't make sense to buy an expensive 3 speed fixed hub only to make it do what an normal 3 speed hub already can.

Sorry, my comment was directed @ dylansbob who was stating that no one had tried it yet.

@ TL179 do you know anyone who sells a complete 3 speed bike with drops at this price point. My friend looked around and deiced this was an in expensive way to get what he wanted(and when he ordered the wt5 wasn't available)

I think what is meant is that if you're tired and don't care to ride home fixed gear, can you run the S3X as a normal freewheel hub? Yes, you can do it.
