doing some comparing, thought i'd get some input. I'm looking at a Norco Atomik or BigHit Comp. Pros/Cons?

Bighit Comp. Just overall a better bike. You won't notice the 24" wheel and the warranty is much better handled by specialized :)

haha. You won't notice the 24" rear wheel until the LBS runs out of 24" tubes, you get a flat cos noone carries a 24" tube on them except other BigHit riders AND not to mention the minimal choice in tyres.
But other than that, the BigHit is probably a better bike but where i come from, so many people have them that i'd get the norco for that reason. Yes, THAT many people have them.

I don't notice that. 24" wheels are extremly popular here :) ;)...you canalways prepare and buy 3 or 4 at once. a 4$ cdn most people can afford a bunch ;)
Minimal choice in tires...arrow, maxxis, michelin, kenda...four of the best dh tire makers around...and there is more I just dont buy them or even consider them...
Old excuses that are pretty much invalidated in todays industry (unless you live in the flatlands) ;)

Yeah i know. And hey its not that bigger problem but its just my personal preference i guess. But like I said, he should get the BigHit.

What's the advantage of a 24" rear wheel, anyway?

quicker acceleration, among other things.

Signifigantly stronger too ;)

In all things, a smaller wheel will have a faster acceleration than a larger wheel, but the larger wheel will have a faster top speed. But in this case, the tops peeds are only marginally different.
The 24" is stronger, has better acceleration and I find it easier to hold a mono and pull up with my BigHit (this is probably because it is mine and I'm used to the bike.
Cons include, less choice in tires (but you can still get HEAPS of tires, and all the best models). Also it is harder for a smaller wheel to roll over an obstacle. I don't notice this last problem, but it is more noticeable with a 20" BMX whell. Also lower top speed (not noticeable as it still has a big top speed)
