Got a child carrier from the thrift store for $2 took off the seat part and replaced it with a old tupperware lid. Need to move the light and reflector not as visible as I'd like. The wife says it's hideous. Probably it is but it meets my requirements light and cheap.
You're wife is right, but I like your utilitarian, "git-r-dun" attitude. The plastic will probably break someday though. The rack itself looks bomber!
That right there is a fine example of the Wile E Coyote school of bike modification. Cool thinking.
I say get rid of that lid and find yourself a milk crate though.

Thought about a milk crate but don't think my lunch box will fit in one. I'll check later.. but really it's about time for a new lunch box. Would be able to mount the lights easier on the crate.

So my lunch box would fit in a crate... Held on with bolts don't think it'll come off.
And I didn't realize it at the time..

Im gonna have to agree w/ your wife...BUT, it's nothing a 99cent can of matte black spray paint from home depot wouldnt fix right up...hell it'll even look pro....also just another thought, Find a way to mount the flasher in the "Handle Slot" & it'll be that much more slick.

Hey, the rack was $2 and it works...
good night, baby goes to sleep.

I really like the width of that rack, I'd be inclined to add a wide platform like your Tupperware lid, but in aluminum.
I found a similar deal at a thrift shop a few years ago - it was an old Blackburn child seat with a nice Blackburn alloy rack for $5. The rack is on my commuter now and I've gotten plenty of use out of it. I haven't seen another one at a thrift shop or yard sale since I bought this one...

We went back the thrift store yesteday and they had another child carrier for the same price. Didn't need another though. They also had a coke crate.. not sure what you call it. Same width but longer and shorter. Only .99 I regret not buying it. If I go back and it's still there I think I'll switch.

Wife may have a point, though.
