What is the maximum tension you can appy to the spokes to stiffen up the wheels? My wheels (32 spokes) are cushie, I apply 1/2 turn to all the spokes and the bike now feels stiffer.

Too tight spokes may cause rim failure. If you're musically inclined, a properly tensioned spoke should play at roughly F# when plucked. For alternative methods and more info see Sheldon Brown's web site on wheelbuilding (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html) (scroll down to "Tensioning and Truing").
