Folding Bikes - Seatpost extension for Dahon Mu

My 10 mile daily commute on my Mu P8 has made me realise that my saddle isn't quite high enough - I find climbing hills tougher than it should be as my knees are quite bent at their furthest extension. My inside leg length is 35 inches so I reckon an extra 2-3 inches on the seatpost height would do the job.

I've seen Dahon's seatpost extender but apparently this doesn't protrude far enough out of the bottom of the bike's frame when the bike's folded to allow the bike to stand freely, which as a part-train commuter is very important to me.

Are there any other options open to me to get my seatpost raised a few inches? Are there any third party Dahon seatpost extenders?

the longer you make your seatpost the more stress you put on the seat tube, increasing the risk of the type of frame cracks discussed here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?651153-I-love-my-dahon-but-it-s-been-nothing-but-problems).

Thor has telescoping Dahon seatposts, those give you an extra couple of inches.

I think the problem was that folks exchanged the regular 27.2 top part with a MTB seatpost with 300 plus length and extended teh seatpost far beyond its designlimits .....

So basically, you're jumping to emotive unscientific conclusions and asking us to unscientifically agree with you. Do you work in finance? :)


Res ipsa loquiter: 1) There's no work around to you having a 35" inseam other than surgery. 2) If you extend the seat post further than the maximum extension mark, or extend it mechanically, there's a risk of write-off damage to the bike frame, with plenty of evidence on here and the Dahon forum to support it.

Dahon's specs for the rider are: Height: 142 - 193 cm (4'8" - 6'4") weight; 105 kg (230 lb). Inside leg and height and not always closely related.

The maximum distance from saddle to pedal on the Mu is 37" although you say your inseam is 35" . What's your actual inside leg measured in your cycling socks & shoes? Place a book spine FIRMLY upwards, in your most sensitive bifurcation, and mark the top of the spine on a wall behind you. Stand on a firm surface, not carpet. You're also likely to be slightly taller in the morning, than the evening and you probably pedal on the balls of your feet adding a half an inch or more to measured inside-leg . Shoes and socks can add 1.5" - 3.8 cms to inside leg.

Then decide if you are too tall for the bike. It may just be that your shoes are too thick.

Other than that on my seatpost page I have most of the length of available seatposts listed .....
I think the "longest" one would be a Kore seatpost and than the adapter on top to suit a regular saddle ....

Point taken, but I ride to work and use the ride as my only form of intense exercise, it saves spending time and money at a gym so I'm keen to adjust my bike so that it's a better fit, but, if the bike is a little too small for me, then I might have to just live with that.
