After completing six weeks of touring in France we clocked up 64 cols (mountain passes). Having now heard about the "100 col's club" we are now wondering how we can get the rest? We already have done a few here in Australia: Bulli, Macquarie, Jamberoo, Victoria (TAS), Weldborough, St Mary's and Elephants passes. Does anyone know of any others in Australia that we could do?

Do they have to be passes climbed with loaded touring rigs or while on tour, or can I just go ride my bike over the local passes? I have white cayuse, chinook, snoqualmie, stevens, blewett, and north cascade/loup loup passes right close to me as well as some dirt logging road passes. Just what are the guide lines.

In Tasmania:

Cethana (especially if you come the back way through Mole Creek)
Mt Arrowsmith
Jacobs Ladder to the top of Ben Lomond, but you have to come back down the same way (ChrisL has intimiate knowledge of this one)
Mt Wellington, of course, but ditto about coming back down the same way and ChrisL's intimate knowledge)
Woodbridge Saddle
Merchants Hill
Kaoota
Fern Tree and the commando training course

There are plenty in the Vic/NSW/ACT Alps -- I can't remember the name of the hill south of Canberra into Namadgie National Park, but it's a toughie.

The thing about most of ours is, you start pretty well from sea level, and while the pinnacle heights might not seem to be that impressive against the Alps, they are about the same gain, and often the roads are steeper.

Tim Shea on the Strathgordon Road isn't too bad either.

Meanwhile, up here we've got Springbrook, Binna Burra, O'Reilly's, Mt Tamborine, The Border Ranges, Cunningham's Gap (9km @ a very constant 8%), Mt Glorious and several others that I'll think of later which all have a height gain exceeding 500 metres (a couple of the above exceed 1,000 metres).

Oh yeah, there's also Queen Mary Falls a little further afield.
