Bicycle Mechanics - Moving 105 rear brake to front - Front brake bolt question.

I recently got a couple spare 105 brakes on the cheap at my local bikeswap, and I'm hoping to use them as a front brake on a SS/FG training project (to use in tandem with my road bikes).

The brakes I bought were rear, and had the shorter bolt for going through the brake bridge, but won't extend all the way for mounting through my fork.

For the price, I may just buy it and give it a shot...but does anyone know of an easy way or inexpensive replacement bolt to help me move a 105 rear brake to the front?

We need to know more about your set up. What size is your fork steerer(1" 0r 1-1/8"), is it drilled for recessed nut? The center bolt you referenced most likely will not work with your 105 caliper. Sheldon had a few ways of useing a rear brake on the front.

No, that bolt won't work. You're right, sorry - It's not drilled for a recessed bolt, and it's a 1" steerer (I believe).

It's a vintage track bike, but it was drilled for both front and rear brakes when I bought it used.

This bike has two rear brakes. I drilled the fork and used a 30 mm recessed nut that I trimmed down so it just clears the inside front of the fork crown.

If you drill the current 6 mm hole in the REAR (ONLY the rear) of the fork crown out to 5/16" or 8 mm you can use a recessed nut to fasten the brake caliper. As noted, you may have to find a longer than normal nut to reach but it works fine when you do it.
