...and I'm pressing charges!

I guess it was bound to happen after I finally upgraded her old Schwinn Letour -- which I had got for her at a yard sale to see if she enjoyed road cycling -- to a new performance brand roadie last year.
We were out last week doing one of our normal rides, half road, half bike trail, when our telepathy broke down. I took a left, she didn't respond, and t-boned me doing about 12 mph. The good news is she actually was able to eject and remain on her feet, even though her clipless pedals have been known to snarl her at traffic lights. This was a relief, because if she had gone down it would of just added to the guilt. Anyway, made a pretty good story when I took her near-tacoed front wheel into the shop and said very loudly, "My wife hit me!"
Please tell me there are other dunderheads that have done something similarly stupid.

um not with my wife, but my dog... i was on the out side of the side walk and just cruzing along, when my dog decided it wanter to change lanes with me at about 10 miles an hour, i slamed on my breaks dive tackled my dog over my handlbars and roled about 2 times. Got a few good cuts but nothing major, and my dog was fine other then the fright of my hurteling myself in to her.

Come on, there has to be some other stupid things going on out there, if at least to lend me some solace.

When I rode bmx bikes I smashed my face on a stop sign. The bike kept going down the road while I was thrown backwards and landed on my backside.

That's gotta make anyone feel better about themselves ;)

Ouch, that sounds pretty tough to do. Hope it wasn't in front of an audience...

i have done the exact same thing, i turned left directly into my gf. the only damage was my ripped vintage 70's christophe toe strap. it could have been much much worse. it was a good laugh though (after the fact of course)

I once coasted up to some pretty girls waiting to start a 50 mile charity ride. I thought I might be able to ride with them hehe. I was staring and forgot to unclip my pedals, came to a complete stop and teetered for a second while I relized my error tooooo late. Over I went and right at the feet of the most charming red head I ever saw. lol And she said very cooly " I suppose you meant to do that?" I said "not exactly" well I got to hang with the girls for a bit but they really dropped me bad after about 20 minutes of riding. haha. For years I told my friends it was because I injured myself in my embarassing toumble, in reality they really smoked me tumble or not.

She was pretty ticked, thus I had to take her wheel for repair. They always win...

I crashed on the W&OD bike path in Virginia once. Early morning summer day, and it was already getting hot, and I came up behind a cute girl wearing bike shorts and a sports bra, complete with ponytail sticking out the back of her helmet. Extremeley cute. I couldn't think of any reason to pass her, and unfortunately couldn't think of anything to say to her either, so we just continued along. Came up to a stop sign, and we both slowed to a stop. I un-clipped on the right side like always, but because of the angle our bikes were to each other, the errrr "view" was better if I leaned left. So I did, of course forgetting that my left foot was still cllipped in. I had that "uh-oh" moment as I felt myself tipping over, but I couldn't save it. WHACK! Smacked the pavement behind her, which at least finally created enough noise that she realized I was there. She did ask if I was OK, and I stupidly said "nothing hurt but the pride", so she rode off.

It wouldn't have been as funny if there weren't people there to laugh at me for the rest of the day.

Did a MS tour ran of the road in areobars didn't crash but fliped the bike on the low sholder getting back on right side RR head to toe rock dent in my elbow. Got to meet all the prety nures (teen) who inflicted pain as each one thought they needed to clean the hole in my are out. Maybe they knew what I was thinking......LOL

I had a BMX bike when I was a kid, and dug it out when I was in my mid teens. Reliving some glory days, I rode into a field that had the remains of our dirt track, found one of the old jumps, and went for it - pulled up on the handlebars to get airborne, and they came right out. I had an amazingly long time to think about how much it would hurt when I landed.

i ran straight into a pole on my BMX one night. wasn't going very fast, but i was riding along, friends behind me started yelling about some ledge or something, so i turned around to look. when i turned back, i just heard my front left peg hit the pole, then handlebars, and then down i went.

i went over the bars on my track bike when it still had a front brake. was riding at a skate park late at night and my friend and i decided to try "nose wheelies" down the backside of a tiny box jump. i got going a bit too fast, held the brake a bit too long, and of course, had my feet in the toe clips. i tried to tuck-n-roll, but with my feet essentially tied to the pedals, i pretty much just flopped over onto the hard, cold concrete. that was the first night i had decided to wear my helmet on my track bike...haven't gone out without it since.

Happy to make you, uh, happy. Once I realized I wasn't mortally wounded, I thought it was funny too - wish I had video of it. I've been paranoid about stems ever since then.

Hey, I'm smelling a new bike here! Make sure she feels guilty, then head to your lbs. Your odds are good.

So then there was the time back in school, my Mb buddy and I had just finished a technical downhill in Great Falls Park, which came down to finish on a flat fire road. We were spinning a pretty good cadence on this road, with him a half bike length in front, just shooting the breeze and not paying much attention to the road because the tough part was over. The next thing I know, my friend nailed a speed bump and went down sideways in front of me. In the split second I had to react, I attempted to bunny hop him, but saw myself not quite making it, and coming down on his chest. The only thing I could think to do was eject forward over the handlebars so as not to crush him. I went flying forward and landed on his still sliding bike as my bike remained on top of him, who was also sliding.
When everything came to a stop, there was silence for a minute as we laid there mangled with each other's bikes. Then we couldn't help but start laughing, which hurt a lot. Lots of road rash on the both of us but the worst injury was to my buddy's rib area. Apparently I had landed on top of him before i was able to eject. He still (10 years later) has 7 perfect chainring teeth marks dotting his rib cage as a reminder of his stupidity. I'll never let him live it down....and its great at partys..."remember that time I ran you over"

I was riding my bike down the boardwalk in Va. Beach and came up behind some of the smallest bikinis I'd ever seen! As I cruised past on the right I guess I should have been paying more attention to the garbage can on the edge of the boardwalk. Yep, ran right into it! I fell off right in front of the girls I'd been admiring. At least they got a good laugh!

When I was a teenager (many moons ago) we were riding at a pretty good pace. My rear brake lever just fell off of the handlebars. The cable was still connected and it swung down towards the front spokes. I stuck my right foot out to keep it from going in. I missed. The brake lever went into the spokes and the cable wrapped around my foot and pulled it in. Of course the front wheel stopped immediatly when my foot hit the back of the forks. The rest of me went over the handlebars, the bike flipped over with me and I slid across two paved lanes and into the dirt on the other side of the road. My friend had to untangle me from the bike. Lots of road rash, not many spoke left.

Wow Avalanche, that sounds really tough to do. Talk about absolutely nothing going right in an accident. I mean mere mortals might get their brake lever into their spokes and fall that way, but you somehow got your leg added to the mix. I give you high marks for going above and beyond the normal crash.

As for the rest of the posts, anybody else see the trend of hot girls and bike accidents. It sounds like Consumer Reports should do a probability study....
Keep them coming...
