I am trying to strip a bike with Campagnolo Chorus 8-speed. (late 90s?) without the benefit of another of these DARN proprietary tools.
I am stymied by the dust ring or cap. on on side I managed to unscrew it's reverse thread. but only a bit. for the next 30 minutes I went through a stupid dance of a little bit of dust ring CW, a little bit of center bolt CCW, a little bit of dust ring CW, a little bit of bolt CCW.... until eventually every came loose and I was able to extract the crank.
the other side dust ring is more obstinate. I can't loosen it to start this CW CCW CW CCW dance.
am I missing something? is this easier than it seems? I've read something about some Campy "Self Extracting Crank" system.
should I just be leaning on the 7mm allen key and somehow the stupid dust ring will come out? I can only imagine stripping the darn thing.
