Can anybody explain this to me.
Currently have FSA Compct 50/34, with 8 speed rear 26/12. Shimano. trek 1000 ,Ok at home but off to the Alps this summer. last year got on alright on a triple. So best option might be to change rear cassette. On the internet Shimano HG 50 8 speed, seem to sgo 11-32, 11-30, or even 11-34 !, Which would give me the equivalent of the triple ??
Thanks

What was the bottom gear on the triple - 30/27? If so, the 11-32 would give about the same bottom gear, but it might be outside the capacity of the RD.
Use a gear chart ........ http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.sherman/shift.html It's fully customizable for any cog or chainring.

That's the biggest concern to watch, is the capacity of the RD. 27 or 28t is pushing the top limit on many road components, and with 32t you might not have the clearance for the jockey pulley.
I used a Tiagra mid-cage RD with an 11-32 cassette; but it took a bit of fiddling with the B-screw to keep the pulley off the cogs; and even then, it just barely cleared.
