Bicycle Mechanics - Wheel weight

I Have recently picked up a 2005 trek 1000 from a friend. I would like to upgrade the wheels but I was curious about what I already have. They are the stock wheels but I do not have a scale. Does anyone know about how many grams the stock wheels are on a trek 1000?

There's so many variations of rim and hub that it would be best to search out the rim and hub weight for your specific parts and add them up. Don't forget to add on the spokes and nipples. Also most wheels are speced for weight without a cassette. Or just go and buy a scale.

In any event bike wheels of a given rim style and width tend to be close to the same sort of weight give or take 20 or 40 grams. So again, find a wheeset that has a rim that looks about the same style and just use that weight as a guide. If you need it closer than this for some reason then you're obsessing to the point where you should again just go and buy a scale. At that point if you're trying to shave off every gram then it comes down to this rim and that tire along with butted spokes. The actual hub isn't as important in this sort of thing since it's the peripheral rotating mass that you're looking to minimize.

According to bikepedia (http://bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?ItemID=10402&Type=bike), if you have a normal Trek 1000, the stock wheels had Alex rims (model not specified). That probably won't help you determine the actual weight of the rim. Might want to check with a local Trek dealer to identify model of the rims.
