She's completed an album after a long wait of over 10 years! Anyone that listened to her and enjoyed her music back in the early 90s will remember how wonderful her voice was. For years, the deejays at radio stations I've listened to have been playing her music and wondering on air when she was going to make a new cd. Then about a month ago, suddenly there was a big increase in Anita Baker songs being played over the air, and I totally knew she was making a comeback. I just had a chance to listen to her new song this week finally, and it's every bit as good as her other music. When her album comes out, I'll be there the first day to pick it up. If anyone is into jazz or smooth r & b, My Everything is the album, and it's due out this month. It's worth checking out!

woman's got a voice like 50 year old scotch . . . smoooth.
I always hoped Toni Braxton (similiar voice IMHO) would grow into
something like this style. . . sigh can't have everything.

Not to hijack the thread, I wanted to bring to everyone's attention a fabulous singer (and good friend of mine) Tami Tappan. Her new album Hot Notes (http://www.lmlmusic.com/artists/tap_recordings.htm) is as good as I've heard jazz/cabaret.

I did several shows with Tami and she remains one of, if not the, most talented female singers I've ever heard. You can check out some clips at the link mentioned above (Try Hit Me With A Hot Note (http://www.lmlmusic.com/artists/audio/tap1.ram) first, an uptempo that really displays her range well.)

Enjoy! All praise Anita!

I always thought Toni Braxton was too big for her britches... and a big ole hoe too! She was just always trying too hard with her image, and it was a bad scene. Add that to having no good sense and bad money management, plus suing her label, LaFace, over problems that were her own undoing made her pretty unpalatable to me, good voice or not. :-/

Now Anita... she quit the music business after 8 grammy wins to raise her kids in peace and quiet. She always projected a sense of good sense and quiet dignity. I actually just went out and bought her greatest hits in anticipation of her new cd. I just can't wait!

Sade is another one I'm waiting on.... it's been a few years since she had a cd out, and her last one was a little of a disappointment to me. Beautiful voice, but the songs were pretty uninteresting... not her usual haunting quality... she is a uniquely beautiful person.
