I'm currently researching my conversion plans from Shimano Dura-Ace 7700 to Campy Record on my roadbike. I've decided to not go totally Campy. I plan on just using Campy for derailleurs, Ergo levers and probably cables. Cranks will be Stronglight Pulsions, BB will be RaceFace Signature Ti or FSA Platinum Pro Ti, brakes will be Zero Gravity OG-04, chain will be Wipperman Connex 911 and wheels will be Mavic Ksyrium SSC SLs.

My only uncertainty is the cassette. I really like the range of my Shimano 9sp 12-27 and really only miss the 16. Luckily the new 10sp Shimano 12-27 has that 16. I've heard that spacing is close enough for the CS-7800 to work with Campy Ergo shifters so I had originally planned on doing that. However, I recently found out about the Recon 10sp cassettes (http://www.hi-techbikes.com/cgi/display.cgi?Recon_2004_Cassette) which come in an 11-27 and proports itself to be Campy compatible. Does anyone have an opinion on these? Any ideas what the teeth breakdown looks like? How well does it shift? The only problem I see is that the stated lifetime is only 3,000 miles. I am able to go to around 15,000 miles with diligent drivetrain upkeep on my past cassettes. Thoughts?

that looks absolutely nuts!

"machined out of a solid piece of aluminum"?!?!

i think the "shimano or campagnolo" thing refers to the splines for the cassette body, and not the actual spacing of the cogs...but i could be wrong. i'd be interested to hear what people have to say about it as well...

that looks pretty cool. I tmight be hard to clean, but otherwise looks pretty cool. i'd be weary of an aluminum cassette, I'd be afraid that it would wear fast. but they say 3000 miles, my ultegra is starting to skip on the middle cogs at 3500, so I dunno.

I just ordered a Wheels mfg 11-27 10 spd cassette to go on my 7700 hub to be used with 03 Chorus group I've just pieced together. It doesn't have the magic 16 but to be honest I haven't found 16 to be so magic. The gearing goes like this 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27.

Now I hope they have the darn thing in stock. Since it's based on Ultegra and since Ultegra cassettes are getting quite rare I hope I don't end up waiting for ever.

$199.00 US for a 3k mile cassette is quite dear imo.

I've heard respacing DA/10 stuff gets you 99% there. I'm worried about the other 1%

Good luck in your search.
