I have an nVidia 7600GS 512MB video card on my computer and the drivers went corrupt, so I downloaded current drivers and installed. Lovely, simply, "computer maintenance 101" type fix.
Here is the weird thing, though:
The old drivers I had (yes, they were old, but my computer is 6+ years old so I didn't care) let me enable "nVidia desktop management" which in turn enabled nVIEW which had a few cool features. Namely, I could have different background images for each monitor, and there was a button added on each window where I could move the window between monitors just by clicking on the button. Cool, useful stuff without installing more 3rd party junk.
With the new/current drivers, there is no nVIEW options, and no way to turn it on. Also, the .dll that lets you change background images through the OS is broken and I can't have anything other than a solid black background on my desktop. When I force out of the non-responsive properties dialogue, the .dll file is named in the error and it crashes.
So, I went to Google to get my nVIEW back, but nothing seems to be available. The only references I could find date back to 2008 and people post links everywhere going to Forceware for the ancient FX cards--nothing that is listed to working with the 7-series cards.
I find this sort of frustrating since I used to change my desktop wallpaper, independently, quite frequently. I actually don't mind being stuck with a black background for ever, but the fact it doesn't work the way it should kinda irks me. I wouldn't be so upset if this were a good enough reason to replace my aging PC with a laptop, but it's hardly an issue worth replacing the computer for.
Thoughts? Am I that out of touch with video drivers that I can't figure out how to do this simple stuff anymore?
ETA: The "desktop management" thing was actually to manage multiple desktops, but I only used the included function of changing wallpaper for each monitor separately.
