I just returned from a bike tour (May-June, 2010) starting in Charleston, SC to Lambertville, NJ. Here are some selected photos from the trip (http://www.biketouringtips.com/showTipComments.php?tipID=1589).
While the most common view on the tour was pine forest, I saw water every day. The views over the water were much more attractive, in my mind, then the endless trees, which had their own charm, as well.
