Classic & Vintage - How do you tell the difference between a 1989 Cannondale ST 400, ST 600 and ST 1000?

I just bought a 1989 Cannondale frame I'd like to build up to a single speed. For 45 bucks I couldn't pass it up. I downloaded a 1989 catalog and found it looks like a ST400 but there are two other models that year in the Sport Tourers. How do I tell the difference in the three models without the componets? Or am I an idiot thinking the frame would be different and not just the componets? Thanks for your replies. Johnny.

If I'm not mistaken... The frames were the same for all models of a line with Cannondale back in those days. The only difference was components.

Edit - too slow.

Amani is correct, I'm pretty sure that Cannondale just offered a road/racing frame, a touring frame and a mountain frame back then.

I think the ST1000 is the only model that has cantilever brakes. Check out the colors and components.

+1 The ST1000 will have canti brake bosses (which is pretty desirable for a touring bike). Otherwise, identical.
