Classic & Vintage - 80's Peugeot, worth it?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

On a ride yesterday I stubled across what I assume is a mid 80's Peugeot with the rainbow stripes and blue field. What really caught my eye was the complete set of white components. It was chained up and appeard to be a daily driver for a regular or employee of the establishment. I didn't get too close as I didn't want to look like I was trying to steal it but it also had an all chrome fork. Is this something worth going after? I am new to this C&V hunting but I can see how it can become very addicting. If it is worth going after what should I offer? Maybe a trade for somthing else that I have/will pick up and give a good tune and clean that may serve them better for thier needs. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.
Without a picture, I would suggest you puruse one of the vintage Peugeot sites. Sounds like 1987 +/- time frame. That was what some of us call the "Miami Vice" era. Several of the component manufacturers made white components, all of it fairly collectible now.
I go after pretty much any road bike with the white components (at the right price), even if the bike itself is trashed.
Best thing to trade most people is cash. The other bikes you pick up can supply this cash. People who talk trade to me usually lose out to people that talk cash.
Take a look at the 1987 PH501.

Thanks Thrifty Bill. I will be passing by today on my ride home to see what the story is on the bike. It did look like the PH501 but from my vantage point and knowledge of peugots they kind of all look the same right now.

Not surprising. To most Craigslist sellers, all Peugeot bikes are PX-10s.
