Foo - Diesel Jeans

These are very expensive. I know this is because they're Diesel Jeans and have the notoriety, but are they well made? Would you say their build quality is better than "normal" jeans?

I can't speak to Diesel, but I have bought expensive jeans (Big Star), and they have lasted 2-3x as long as the jeans I had been buying for 1/3 the price.

What constitutes "quality" for you when talking about a pair of jeans? Straighter, cleaner stitching? Flatter seams? Nicer fit? Fancy embroidery on the back pockets? Or are you after a pair of jeans that can put up with more abuse: Heavier stitching and denim, even though the seams may be bulkier and not as dressy looking?

Diesel is decent if you're looking for a pair of jeans for going out to the clubs, but not if you want a pair for working in your garden and garage. For me, jeans are a utilitarian garment and I care more about durability than anything else.
And, most "dress denim" companies don't make anything that fits me so I can't wear it anyhow.

I usually buy Levis 505s, and the one more expensive brand I bought were two pairs of Lucky Brand... that I ended up cutting off! they have a bit of stretch, and I wear them all the time in the summer for days when I'm biking aroung town. I've never had a pair of jeans go kaput on me.

Diesel brand is to be of quality. I have a couple of Diesel products including jeans that I rank high on brands that I own. The jeans fit and wash well. Most importantly, the zippers stay put and don't ride down like those on less expensive jeans.

Newer Wranglers aren't very durable nor are they comfortable. One of the cheapest jeans you can buy, really.

Aren't those jeans like $100 a pair?

I go to the local Goodwill and pick up a pair of jeans for $5 when I need new jeans. Can't recall the last time I purchased a brand new pair of jeans.

For me, I find the optimal jean price (yeah, I'm a dork) is around $90 CAD. Once you start getting up into the $300 jeans, they may be fancier, but the build quality isn't $210 better. Less than $75 new means they last about 2 years, tops.

I have a few "utility" jeans that I use when I work in a shop (work study during school) and projects, but otherwise I like to wear nice fitting jeans. The reason I brought this up was because a coworker who has a slim build like me said Diesel jeans fit really well and that he's had his pairs for 5 years and wears them all the time. This suggests to me good quality is at play; nicely stitched, unlikely to come undone, etc.

I like to see what others think before buying stuff, especially expensive stuff.

As a matter of principle I would never buy 300 dollar jeans, but Diesel jeans don't appear to be that costly.

With the cost of four pairs of jeans, what bike that would get you?

Generally clothes that last a long time is due to the fact that they're cared for properly. (i.e. no hot/warm water washes, and little to no time in the dryer...also with no high heat).

They fit me well, plus the females love them

I recently donated a few pair of jeans that were at least 3 or 4 years old. I'm tall and slim enough that it's rare that I can find my size in stores. The only reason I replaced them was that I found that a 34 length fits me much better than 32. They were still perfectly wearable otherwise.

What were they? $20 Arizona jeans, JC Penney's store brand.

Hey, that's the brand I wear. I'm a fellow cheapskate. I have some Az's that are 3 years old and are just fine.

I've been getting Urban Pipelines (I'm a Tony Hawk skateboard dude...30 years ago) from Kohl's. The last pair I got on sale, and with a $10 off card = $3.14 incl. tax.
I don't like paying $40 for the used-to-be-made-in-the-states Levis, much less any jeans that cost three figures.

I just found a perfect pair of jeans for $10 on a sale rack. I don't think I've ever spent more than $50 on them.

I've never worn Diesel but they are a reputable brand and I'm told they are of top quality. I usually wear Lucky these days. Mainly because they seem to be the only brand I can find that fits good, plus the quality is top notch and they last me 3 or 4 years before they look haggard and worn out. I stopped buying Levis, etc, when I kept getting jeans that fell apart in 3 months and had each leg a different length.

I have a few pairs of U.P. jeans, too. For $10 on sale, I wouldn't complain if they fell apart in a year; and they've lasted me three so far. Not bad, but the fit isn't as nice as my Levi's 505 pairs. Though it is a bit disappointing to see that Hecho en Mexico tag in 'em after growing up with Levi Strauss as the iconic U.S. brand.

seven & diesel make POS jeans. most of their stuff aren't even selvage. keep drinking the koolaid if you like burning money

if the $$$ is really burning a hole in your pocket, earnest sewn stuff is top notch. since i don't have that problem, i go to uniqlo. very nice dark indigo selvage jeans for $40 (japanese material, made in china), selvage jeans made in japan are for $80. this thread should have ended with the second post
