Hello everyone, new here and really interested in purchasing my first road bike. I've been riding fixed for awhile now  don't hurt me, but i've gotten over it and would like to ride something more practical. I've been looking on craigslist for sometime now and have come across this Bianchi Stelvio. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bik/1800601598.html

I've been doing some research and i'm pretty sure the asking price is a bit inflated. It's def. in pristine condition, but $500 is pretty steep for a bike that retailed $420 brand new. I don't know much about the bike, so I was wondering if you guys could fill me in on the details and give me a fair asking price.

Much appreciated
-Joshua

I agree it is way over priced. I have to research this but I always thought thet a Tre Tube frame refered to the three main tubes being Columbus Alle tubing the reartriangle being a lower quality. anyway the catalog shows the frame as Columbus Alle R Double Butt.

just looking at the pic I would doubt the cranks are Campi, I don't see why the bike would be specced with Triomphe and then have a Record crank. according to the catalog the parts should be cranks, Ofmega, the hubs Ofmega. so much for "all Campagnolo"

this bike is very clean and looks in good shape but I would not pay $500 for it.

That bike is BEAUTIFUL!!! It is probably not a great first bike but I think the condition definitely deserves a premium price. I think that components maybe original to the bike, even that crankset.

I defer to bianchigirl on the value but you are in CA (I am as well) and bike prices here run higher. Someone, I bet, will pay him the $500. If it was my size I would even consider it.

That's an Ofmega made Bianchi branded crank, just like the Nuovo Racing I looked at this weekend. And the Columbus sticker on the front fork leads me to believe BGs Aelle tubing spec rather than TreTubi.

[and TreTubi is 3 main tubes Columbus, forks and stays other]

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the insight. Anyone want to throw out some price quotes, so I have an idea of what I should be offering to bargain with the seller? Also if someone could explain the dif. in the types of steel mentioned above would be great.

Problem with bikes that are significantly over priced, is that the seller might not be/is probably not going to be realistic. Bike might be only worth $350. But if the seller won't take it, your choices are to overpay, or keep looking. I would keep looking.

Based on how the bike is presented, polished up, etc., this sure looks like a local flipper. I would assume he has determined that the market will pay his price (or overpay, depending on your viewpoint). "Tre Tubi Steel" does not mean triple butted, it means "three steel pipes". This is a good example how sometimes terrific presentation can yield above market pricing. I bet he sells it.

A quick search shows this guy is a flipper, he has several bikes for sale right now.
