So I uploaded an idea for a totally new form of transportation on Slate. The idea list is here (http://www.slate.com/id/2256666/hv/hiveList). Its title is "Feather Rail (True Monorail)." If it doesn't show up in the most recent list, try again in 24 hours because ideas are screened.

Feel free to vote for any other good ideas too. I did so myself (for the bicycle freeway idea). It's just that even the slightest hints of politics for some of them (congestion pricing, rail priority) gets tangled up in the process, so I submitted my own idea.

If this ever gets going, I would like to pursue it as my life's work. I've developed and refined it since 2007.

The three main goals of the transportation system are:

0. Fundamentally sustainable transportation.
1. Cheap and economical for construction and use
2. Fast, reliable, and a critical component for urban (and rural) mobility

Many of the old ideas have a lot of votes. They are good, but I want to be able to compete with them. With the bicycling masses, I can finally have a voice.

Looks like they haven't updated the list yet. I will try again and submit another entry today.

Okay, looks like it's back up.

Here (http://www.slate.com/id/2256666/hv/hiveList)is the link again. My idea's title is Feather Rail (True Monorail). You won't have to sign up or register for anything to vote. Only needs a image verification.

Some questions:
* So this is a grade seperated max 30mph system either electric vehicles or human powered with the option to use bicycles?
* Are vehicles provided by users or the system?
* Is this a beam type system, like normally seen with monorail systems, or something else?
* If its grade seperated, how are connections made?
* Assuming the grade seperation is above streets, how do you keep people from falling off thier vehicle?
* How does the vehicle ride the rail or beam to ensure stability? Ingress and egress to the system?
* Can the vehicles be then used on-road without modification?
* Is power provided to the vehicles, or are they expected to bring batteries?
* If I'm traveling at a leisurely 13mph on my monorailbike, what happens to the people on HPVs wanting to travel 30 or faster? Can they pass?
* I know beam monorail systems in practical use have a large, cumbersome system of track switching, as whole beams need to be moved into and out of place. It also creates a conflict where a monorail vehicle can fall off the end of an improperly switched track. How will you deal with monorail switching and what will you do to ensure people don't fall off the end?

Looks neat.

I've actually been interested in monorails in general for a long time. They're actually better than el-trains in nearly every way, they've just never been able to really shake the novelty stigma. The idea of using it in conjunction with light transport is interesting.
