Folding Bikes - Vintage Mystery Folder...

Have seen this model before and have some pics stashed in my archives... believe it was Italian made and has a pretty unique method for folding the handlebars.

Other than that it is quite typical of many European U frame folders of the 60's and 70's.

Looks like a unique method of adjusting the seat height as well.

I have a Columbia Commuter II (http://2whls3spds.blogspot.com/2009/06/dutch-chic.html) that doesn't fold, but disassembles, it is made of square sections (sheet metal bent and welded) even the seat post is square. It was built by the Magneet company in Holland back in the mid/late 60's. Amazing engineering for it's time. Need to get more pictures of it and the odd details on it.

That Columbia was made in the USA ...Magneet was an importer like a few others ..at least I am pretty sure .... I had one of them its a nice bike BUT SUPER HEAVY .... and it was fun when one handlebar starts slipping ..lol

The one I have says it was built in Weesp, Holland by Magneet. It may have been designed in the USA... I will have to check when I get home again. I bought it because it 1) fit my bride and she needed a bike to ride around on here in Iowa that summer and 2) because it was unusual. It has a lot of neat little features on it, like the plastic bushing for the headset/pivot with the embedded contact for the head light to provide power from the rear mount generator, the folding pedals are of an unusual design too. I agree that it is heavy for it's size.

I know that Magneet was a builder back in their day, I used to race against a Dutch guy back in the 1970's that had a very nice Magneet road bike with Campy equipment on it. IIRC they were sucked up by one of the conglomerates and quietly disappeared.

it's a 1960's duemila folding bike. my boyfriend and i own one also. they are pretty rare from what i hear.
