Classic & Vintage - What is it?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I found this bike at a flea market, it looked old and unique, but I had no idea what it could be. The frame is different, the rear wheel part is most interesting. The welding doesnt leave much to be desired, it doesnt look sturdy.I just want to know if anyone can identify this, or if it is just a cheap bike frame.

The original compact ?
I like those rear dropouts.
It's a bike with the most humongous rear dropouts ever!!
Weird thing is, even if they might be just pressed steel plates, they must add a tremendous amount of weight to the bike, so they must have had some big reason for doing such a design on a bike frame. Thing is, they didn't even try to at least make the plates look nice, except for that dart shape towards the chainstay ends,. They just look monsterous back there!

Looks like a 60's vintage department store bike, JC Higgins or some such. If it was in good shape it might make a decent beater, but I wouldn't put any money or effort into it.

The drop bars on the canti frame are aesthetically appealing to me somehow. I'm still looking for a 531 canti frame for that project.

I saw that Merlin model for sale in Toronto. The first ti-retro cruiser under $2000 and sooo beautiful.
back to thread...the bars look kinda interesting and it's always nice to see the drivetrain side of the bike.

the frame, excepting the drop outs remind me of an AMF Roadmaster.
Note the top tube and fork. Maybe an old AMF?
