So when you're riding, your limbs are natural suspension components that soak out most of the bumps. But what about children's seats... do they have springs or something, or do they feel every jolt in the road?

Most kids' bikes use fat tires, and running a fairly low pressure soaks up a lot more shock than anything else you can do without spending a fair amount of money. Most of us--ALL of us over about 40--grew up riding before anybody ever thought of bike suspension. It wasn't a problem for us, it wasn't a problem for my kids, now 25 and 29, and I can't see why it would be a problem today.

All the small children I've seen have come equipped with their own 'natural suspension component' as standard equipment. It's generally effective enough that they're able to doze off and sleep right through those jolts from the road while sitting in a child seat.
