Touring - Replaceable DR hanger on custom frame?

Hi!

I'm getting into details of the custom steel frame I'll be ordering in the UK later this year.

Would it be a good idea have it built with replaceable derailleur hangers, so the whole frame doesn't get trashed by this weak point?

If so, any suggestions as to which model to base it on (there are apparently different hangers for all different bike models)? Cannondale? Durability and availability are main issues.

Any disadvantages to going this route?

That sounds like a great idea. I have one on my mountain bike (giant reign 2) and I have already utilized it. It seems like you should just design to use one of the existing mountain bike replaceable hangers, there are a bunch out there. Sorry I don't have more specific advice.

If it was my bike and I wasn't going to be riding off road,I would get the hanger built in the dropout,much stronger.But if you tour off road much and have a chance of bashing it on rocks and such, replaceable sounds good to me.

No, I'm rarely off road, (or dirt track) but have once bent the hanger - no idea how - which had to be bent back. No big deal, but I'm trying to optimize the design now that I have the chance with a fully custom frame :)

if the frame will be steel, its not really needed... ie, I wouldnt pay too much for this feature if I were you.

if aluminum or ti, then, yes, definitely.
