Touring - Bob Yak Skewers

I recently purchased a very lightly used bob yak off of a nice lady on craig's list. the frame looks like it was never used, and came with the liner bag. the only problem I had was that the skewer that she had with it was a mountain bike skewer as far as I could tell. she bought it separate and in the picture it had a dude on a mountain bike towing the bob. I dont know how much a new skewer will cost, probably 20 to 30 dollars. but I was really just thinking of cutting a quarter inch off of one of the ends because thats all the slack that I really need to make it fit on my road bike.

Would any of you suggest doing this? I'm talking just cutting off a tiny bit to make the quick release fit. I've check it out when trying to fit the skewer on my junker commuter it just needs to be shortened a tiny but and could probably still be used on a mountain bike.

There's more then enough thread to hack off the few mm needed. I did 7mm on two skewers, there's plenty of thread left still, more than I can thread through the nut.

When you buy one new they are full length and you have to cut them down for you particular bike. So yes, cut whatever you need to.

Alternately, you can usually add spacers, which will keep the BOB nuts properly spaced for the trailer.

cut it down, that's what they recommend. The instructions included tell you how to best cut it down without buggering up the threads, but it's really not that hard.
