Man, Serenity is a way cool movie.

I like Matt Smith as the new Doctor, too.

I saw Serenity because I was up late.

But unless you live in England liking any Dr. except McCoy is just wrong.

Serenity was cool. Anything Joss Whedon does is pretty interesting.

However, McCoy wasn't the most interesting Star Trek doctor. Dr. Crusher was, well, interesting in a different way.

Not just Serenity... the whole FireFly series was awesome.

And I heart Matt Smith as the doctor. David Tennant was good too, but Matt Smith is just plain awesome.

But why was it so short-lived then? Yeah it had one of the Baldwin bros...but other than that...

He was most people's favorite. My favorite is actually Peter Davison. Nothing beats wearing vegetables on your lapel. Nothing.

I just finished pirating the whole serial with Matt Smith. I'm so glad to see Amy and Rory stick around.

It was canceled after a single season before any episodes even aired. They aired them because they were made, but cut the season short to push other things (which is why there's extra episodes on the DVDs). My guess is that FOX expected little mass appeal.

They have a habit of dropping shows that have a cult following followed by mass appeal because they're looking for the "Lost"-type formula of mass appeal followed by cult following.

I'm not a Lost fan at all, but you have to just marvel at how poorly the series was managed (starting/stopping/odd delays in production) and how it still maintained its popularity. Meanwhile, FOX has shows that have a steady base to grow from and maintain a regular season schedule that they drop because execs think they know better than the audience (remember they canceled Family Guy twice and Arrested Development even with all the uproar to keep it).

After the debacle of Episode 1, I looked forward to Serenity more than anything since they re-released the Trilogy in the 90s.

I liked the show far more than the movie. Mostly because the movie was at least a season's worth of material, but also because killing off two characters made sure that the show could never continue, thus closing off what could have been a fascinating universe to explore.

I like the show more because it was more organic. There was an edge to the show the movie lost when they had the budget to spend to make things more "futuristic" feeling. Still, the movie was incredible. The story line was something that was compelling while wrapping up the characters for the die-hards. I really admire Whedon for being able to introduce the story to newcomers without dragging it along for those familiar with it.

One side note, Ron Glass (Shepherd Book) said at a con awhile back that Joss definitely had more story/stories to tell, including some that ways that included Book.

One more note before I irrevocably become the geekiest in Foo, the "leaf in the wind" scene has to go down as one of the greatest/jolting death scenes in all of cinema.

Actually, FOX canceled FireFly after 11 episodes aired: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117901954.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Personally, I'm kind of glad it has been prevented from being picked back up. Star Wars, Die Hard, Alien, and Shrek are all examples of movies that were great as limited franchises, but were later squeezed for more dollars yielding sequels that even when produced by the same crews no longer had quite the same vision.

Serenity was a fantastic conclusion to the series. Yes, I would have liked more if it could have continued true to its beginning, but having what we've got, I'm satisfied.

I'm not sure I'd call it "greatest," but definitely "jolting." It was pretty hard to accept that Wash was dead, just like that.

The best scene from the movie for me, even though I'm normally far from an eye candy movie-watcher, was the fly-around at the conclusion of the opening credits as they're starting atmospheric entry and they show an external, computer-generated view of Serenity flying through plasma, but you can see through the window's to filmed footage of Mal and Wash. It was uniquely, I think, immersive.

My favotrite part of Serenity was when the buffer panel came of and he announced that they might blow up and crash, in a matter of fact delivery. ;)

My favorite part of Serenity was Chiwetel Ejiofor, but I usually like him whatever he's in, even though I have no freakin' idea how to pronounce his name. He'll win an Oscar one of these days, he's a great actor with a heck of a lot of presence on the screen.

Book was far and away the most interesting character on the show.

I'm sorry that Matt Smith is not going to be the Dr. for a long run. Alex Kingston is going to kill him next season (best storyline since Badwolf).

SPOILER??? I thought they signed him to a long contract.

I like his companion, Amy. Although I think they need to figure out her character a bit more.
They wrote themselves into a bit of a corner with Rory (sp?). I guess the only way out was to erase him from existence.

I've also noticed more little kids in the episodes. Are they going for a different audience?

Love Firefly, they need to make another movie, bring back the show, anything.

And as long as we doing generic geek, the recent Trek movie was the best Trek ever.

The Wrath of Khan was much better.

Trek was 3 times the movie Wrath of Khan was.

It didn't have Shatner! It had better actors! It had much, much better special effects!
It fleshed out the characters better!

And last, but hardly least, it saved Star Trek from the dustbin of history.

More Trek is coming.

All of the above are reasons it was not actually Star Trek.

My friends think I'm nuts because they don't see the differences, but it drove me mildly crazy that the Enterprise looked nothing like the original.

The guy who played Bones did a pretty solid job, however.

Trek was 3 times the movie Wrath of Khan was. You're either substance-impaired or trolling the thread.

It didn't have Shatner! It had better actors! Not having Shatner is always a negative. The Original Series actors pretty much all have more extensive acting pedigrees than any of the children on the new one.

It had much, much better special effects! ILM special effects from the second movie still hold up pretty damned well, actually.

It fleshed out the characters better!I'm beginning to think you haven't even seen Wrath of Khan. It was very philosophical and character-driven, the new one was fine and it was full of action, but it replaced a lot of the deeper themes and subtexts that Star Trek fans love with....swordfights and explosions.

And last, but hardly least, it saved Star Trek from the dustbin of history.Kirk and Co. didn't ruin the movies, it was the awful Next Generation movies that killed the franchise.

More Trek is coming.More Zoe Saldana.
