A few years back I bought an aluminum frame at a garage sale... No parts on it at all. Bare aluminum. It's been hanging in my garage, and I'm starting to get a bug to build it up. I have an aluminum fork that's already buffed/chromed... I think it's aluminum, anyway...

What would you do to paint the frame? Would you leave it bare aluminum? Yeah, that'll look goofy.

I don't need it to be gorgeous. Just a single solid color. I thought I might call around to find somewhere to have it painted, and see if i can sneak it in to someone else's batch of stuff getting painted. (I don't have a booth or spray equipment, so I'm guessing it's probably cheaper to get it done somewhere.)

But for aluminum, what do you specify? Any recommendations on the kind of place I should look for?

Thanks in advance.

In the short time since I posted that, i found a Powdercoating shop in town... $90 to do frame and fork... They've supposedly got metal samples of the 300 colors I can choose from.

Sound reasonable?

Now just have to figure out if it's worth it!

I have a full Ultegra 600 group from probably around 1989 (7-speed cassette) that's on an old carbon fiber frame that's cracked...

I'll probably start dismantling the carbon fiber bike and fit the bits to the aluminum frame to see if the parts will work.

You still need to prep the aluminum before coating it. Etch, rinse, conversion coat etc.
