30 seconds into the coverage and I already want to yank the TV off the stands and fling it out the window. How anyone can find these two tools tolerable is a mystery.
take it easy.
I just watch the Eurosport version online.
+1, although you've already said this isn't an option. The only shame is I give up HD because of it.

I wonder, as the peleton was neutralized yesterday, if LA thought back to 99 and the Passage du Gois when Postal put the hammer down when many of the pre Tour favorites crashed out.

Versus coverage is for the 41 and the Bicycling Magazine crowd.

so cool.
I'm watching Monfort as he tools along at 400W and 161 bpm. Incredible. I can't see the actual race, but judging by the watts he's taking pulls with at least one other person?

Not really any worse than the british guys on Eurosport and team Sky.

that's good to know
For as awesome as HD is, watching a crappy stream has been better than Versus so far. At least I get to watch the race instead of 75% human interest stories.

Online stream without commercials is, indeed, the best way to watch. Commentary language doesn't matter as it's all muted at work anyways.

incorrect. watching sporza, with michel wuyts and tom steels, on my TV is the best way to watch.

Impressive effort for Armstrong to close a 1' gap.

Cobbles:
1) Adds an interesting element to the TdF
or
2) Adds pointless risk, causing people to crash out
or
3) ?
Leaning towards #2. (Prepared for flames. I haven't seen any coverage yet. Will probably have to catch the versus re-run later)

1.
The only person I saw have a bad crash today was Frank Schleck, who appeared to take himself out.

I wonder if Vino actually knew Contador had been popped?

I think #1. Great race today. Love to see the big guys have a chance to get some time gaps once and awhile.
Bad day for Frank, but all the other GC guys seemed to have a good day. Figured Andy and Contador would have a bit more trouble as little guys going over the cobbles, and Lance had a good effort after he punctured even though he still lost some time.

he has a radio.

I don't think Vino knew Contador was gapped, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did and still hammered on. What an exciting stage! Great ride by Hesjedal.

And he was dropped at the very end of the stage, the director wouldn't have known. So unless Contador radioed him, he wouldn't know.

by AC's body language at the line, I would say he felt betrayed. He sort of does that a lot though.

I just have a feeling Contador is gonna be off this time around. I also think Vino will be riding well and refuse to work for AC causing some turmoil again in Astana. Whatever happens I just hope it will be an exciting tour.

qft - it happened coming around the last couple of bends before the line, I saw it happen and there's no way AV could have known.
(Whether or not he should have been hammering when AC was that close to blowing up may be a different question about communication)

count me in - he rode like a mad man and did a remarkable job of staying with a bunch of guys he "wasn't supposed to be with"

Someone said that Contador had a flat in the final Km, and was rolling in on it. Don't know if that's true, but if so, not much Vino could do about it.

Agreed. Those little guys surprised me today. You have to expect people like Thor, Cancellera, Cadel, and maybe Armstrong to do well on a stage like that, but I expected Schleck and Contador to have a rough day. Very impressive.

if he had a flat then why did he give the "WTF" signal at the line?

Alberto: Looked down at flat rear tire. Then gave WTF. In case you missed it because you were watching the two idiots on the rodeo channel and not Eurosport, Vino worked his ass off at the front of Alberto's group.
Vino's been doing a lot of work for Alberto already in this race, and he pulled Alberto up to the the front several times in this stage. Pay attention.
