I've got a few days off of work on an upcoming trip to Pordonone, Italy. The places mentioned in the title are some options I'm considering. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Seeing as how Marseille is in France...
I've never been to any of the three of them, though Rome may be on the agenda later this year. Would like to hear what others have to say.

Marseille and Rome are at the about the 8 hour drive mark. Milan is a bit closer. But, I've never been to France so Marseille is more appealing at the moment.

I would ride the train instead of driving I think. Never been to Europe though.

Milan is nice, plus you can take a bus up to nearby Lake Como, it's out of this world. Marseille and Rome can both be hot this time of year, Lake Como is very nice.

I've been to marseilles and rome several times each. Rome was always fun and enjoyable. Marseilles tended to be a drag.
I'd go back to rome right now. Marseilles, i could skip for the rest of my life and be happy.

Marseilles is nasty so don't bother. Milan has a beautiful Duomo worth visiting and as mentioned before, close to the very beautiful Lago Como. Rome has its history and is exciting but just as nasty as Marseille and rougher. Heck, skip the three and go to Lugano instead.

Lugano is one of the most beautiful cities in Ticino. It is relaxing, quaint and offers a lot of hiking trails (if you are interested) not to mention it is just north of Milan.

Of the three, I would pick Rome. If you want to do France, go to Nice or Cannes (But Paris and Bordeaux were better). Marsielles was kinda funky.

Been to all three, if Lugano is Milan, it's the best IMHO. Spent many weekends there to escape Milan. Rome has better sightseeing than Milan, Marseilles is a dump, Aix is very nice, 40 minutes from Marseilles.

I have never been to Rome but been to Milan. I'd opt for Rome. Milan is fine if you happen to be there but Rome has so mucjh more to offer.
But there are a ton of places in between. Cinque Terre and Lucca are wonderful. Pisa is very nice. Just east of Milan is Cremon, probably my most favorite town I have visited in Italy.

If you are going to be in Pordenone, check out Venice or drive around Tuscany at least.
Rome is too far away and Milan is an industrial, graffiti sprayed, ugly, gray, place.

I've been to Marseilles and Rome, it was in the late 70s during my Navy days. Rome is just way too cool to miss.

If you're looking for the perfect Italian town, IMHO, and you can stand to go a bit south of Rome, I highly highly recommend Gaeta which is on the coast, and the surrounding countryside. It's one of my favorite places.
