How *convenient*. Just a few weeks after I become eligible for an upgrade with AT&T, the screen on my Samsung Magnet magically cracks today. While in my pocket. I didn't drop it, slam my hip into anything. Its probably just exposure to heat or evil magical dwarves projecting force waves into the environment that were gene engineered in a secret lab hidden somewhere in Cupertino.
Anyway, I ordered an iPhone 4 this afternoon. Should arrive sometime next week.

The genetically engineered dwarves can do it silently, tho.

Running it over with my fixie would be pretty quiet. ;)

Do they make cool noises when you run them over?

I'm sure there's already an ap you can buy for your iPhone that simulates the sounds the phone makes when you run it over with a fixie.
BTW, what kind of fixie rig do you have?

Many iphone 4s are being delivered and arriving to their destinations broken. These are very frail compared to previous design.

Cite? I follow the tech news closely and have not seen any indication that there are large numbers arriving broken, that the device is "very frail", and/or even more frail than previous models.

:) I actually did have a cell get run over by a car ... it popped out of my Bento box when I was bike commuting several years ago... smashed by the time I realized I'd lost the phone.

Maybe you should try running over your Raliegh with a iPhone. Just be careful how you hold it, or you will lose 60% of your signal strenght.

The iPhone is guaranteed to lose out in this encounter, regardless of the details.

If it's ATT, your calls will be dropped, regardless.

I don't see any way out of using verizon. I'm torn between going for their cheapest smallest phone or just finding some kind of cash pay as you go option. Picking a cell company is like picking a heroin dealer or petrochemical provider, it's a really unsavory list of choices, no matter how cool the electronic geegaws they dangle in front of you.

I used to have Sprint, speaking of a provider that dropped calls constantly. AT&T has been much, much better for me.
I love T-Mobile, but I've not just been having calls dropped, I've had calls seem to not register at all as missed.
So, I guess I'm going to go with AT&T myself. Three reasons: I can drop a femtocell (http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/why/3gmicrocell/) in my place so I have better call coverage. I can go with an iPhone. And since I use AT&T for plenty of other stuff (hosted a domain, etc.), might as well get a cheaper rate with wireless folded in. I've been impressed by their home ISP service with the last major downtime in 2004. Plus, since I have existing GSM phones, I might as well drop a SIM card in those as backup.
As for the iPhone, I am looking at getting it for three main reasons: I am doing some part time consulting, so having real-time Exchange support is important. TVs, stereo systems, even cars have standard ports to plug an iDevice into. And I do want to noodle around with Objective C and seeing if I can get an RPG I was making a few years back written for Windows Mobile working on the device.

I ordered an iphone on June 15. I haven't heard anything from them so I wondered if they lost my order. My wife checked the credit card bill and found that they did charge me for it. I at least have a receipt so now I have to go back to their store and complain about it. My daughter ordered hers the same day that I did and has had it for over a week. A co-worker ordered his a couple of days after I did and he has already received his also.

My iPhone came on Wed. Picked it up 20 minutes after it arrived at the store (I was watching the FedEx delivery on line). I love it. Its an amazing piece of tech... and I've had no dropped calls or losses in signal strength on it. :)
