Electric Bikes - Battery Bikes at Westminster Palace

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There will be a demonstration of electric bikes in Black Rods Garden at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 6th July for the members of both Houses and special invitees. This has been organised by BEBA (British Electric Bicycle Association) and will include a presentation on The Electric Bicycle - Cycling E-volution or Re-volution? where there will be discussion on how electric bikes can be integrated into the transport mix to promote greener transport.

The promotion of electric bicycles as a valid form of transport will create growing public awareness and further the use of electric bikes.

Unfortunately BEBA had to postpone the event due to circumstances beyond their control. I understand that the event will go ahead in October now.

I'm disappointed that we could not attend, but now I am looking forward to going to BikeRadar Live at Brands Hatch this weekend, I hope to do a couple of laps of the Indy Circuit (should be fun) :-)

Since there is more time to prepare for the demonstration, may I suggest that your group look at incorporating some data in any handouts that may be produced that shows how efficient electric bikes are in terms of energy consumed. I would suggest that someone might contact Justin Lemire-Elmore, one of the co-owners of e-bikes.ca, who traveled from the Pacific coast of Canada to the Atlantic coast of Canada in 2008, using less than $10.00 CAD. He could give some valuable insights and some interesting, real world information. There's a 2-hour presentation he gave to a Vancouver, B.C. e-bike club about his trip. Here's a link to it.

Thanks for the info. :-)

I do not know a date yet for the re convened event, but because it will be within the Palace of Westminster it will be for members of Parliament and special invitees only.

Whoops! Sorry, I should have read your post more carefully. I'll just have to become a member of Parliament in the next couple of months.
