Even the frozen mango pieces you can buy in the grocery stores are tasty. They make great fruit drinks.

You most likely had a Kent variety of mango. Almost like a buttery texture. Mangoes do not grow here in Tampa but in Bradenton, Fl (northern limit) there are tons of mango trees. Bradenton is also the northern limit of the lychee as well. The mango and lychee tree grow well in peoples yards because of the overabundance of irrigation that is necessary to maintain a green lawn. Green grass equals big ass mangos. During the time the are ready to be picked, migrants will scour the neighborhoods looking for these two trees and offer to harvest. Better that than to have tons of dropped fruit falling day after day.
Some mangos are better than others. Store purchased ones are usually not as good as the roadside laces. In fact I will not eat a store bought one.

Not sure what variety or type it was. It was slightly smaller then what the store normally sells, and a bit softer. It was amazing. I normally love mangos. I f'ng fell in love with that one.

the skin of mangos has the same chemical as poison ivy. Don't get your lips anywhere near that because hydrocortisone does not make good lip balm. I haven't had a mango since then... but I'm tempted.

I've been eating all types of mangos all my life, skin and all, never had even an itch.
The amount of urushiol in mango skin is so small that most people do not show any affects. If you are highly sensitive to poison ivy, you might show some reaction.

The first thing I do before pealing a mango it cut a section one inch around the stem and throw it away, the rest of the fruit is fabulous. I learned this from my neighbor in Hawaii who had a mango tree that hung into my yard, she invited me to take as many that hung over the fence as I'd like. She also had a Lychee tree that came over the fence, that was cool too.

Try green mango with Kosher salt. Totally yumsters! Also, ripe mango in stir fry is highly awesome.

This is my understanding. I have heard that the trees can emit enough urishiol to be irritating to sensitive people.

that sounds like my problem, I skinned it with a potato peeler and ate it like that (very messy). Thankfully it was only on my lips and somewhat mild.

A friend had a pretty severe reaction after climbing a mango tree as a kid. Still deathly afraid of them, freaks out when someone brings a mango, even a mango smoothie into the house.

Same stuff is in cashews. When you roast them it neutralizes it, for the most part. I cannot eat a cashew with out having severe breathing issues afterward. I've had issues a few times after eating other food and found that it was processed in equipment that handled cashews. I even avoid cheap peanuts because they are often processed on the same equipment.

I agree, mango taste gross to me. The last one I tried tasted like dirt. I would rather eat Beets (ok, so I enjoy beets...:) )
Apparently the mango tree is the biggest cause of dermitisis in Hawaii.

Mango is sensual.
Almost anything can be sensual - when considered with the proper perspective.
Feathers, leaves, a cell phone, a scarf, copper wire, an ice cube... just requires some imagination.

Don't limit yourself. Car battery, BBQ tongs, a swingline stapler (why do you think they made the red one?).
They made the red one as a direct result of Office Space actually. Now on with the list. Vacuuam cleaner, dipstick, Harry Carey glasses, goat leggings.....

what annoys me about the mango is how flipping huge the stone is. I mean, it's bigger than the fleshy part. What's that all about? If it was man made, you would take it back to the shop to demand your money back.

Yes, but you would have to work hard to get to the soft centre, and there comes a time when you say it is just not worth the hassle. There are lots of other soft centres out there.
