A GREAT country. Happy Birthday. Had to say that... My wife is Canadian. We miss the trips to Canada when we were living in Vermont.

Every day is Canada day in Seattle; we continue to be ever vigilant about incursions from the North.

I have 4 thoughts about Canada this week:

1. Would love to get back to Tofino for another vacation, but it's a grueling all-day drive from here, and no one flies there from Seattle any more.
2. Somebody send me some Timbits.
3. Colleague of mine is moving to Vancouver, and is looking for a condo. Real estate prices about 2x Seattle. You guys need a good recession up there to bring things down a bit.
4. Very much looking forward to the Whistler Gran Fondo in September.

What's the point of a party if no one tells a joke, eh?

Conjoined twins walk into a pub in Toronto and park themselves on a bar stool.

One of them says to the bartender, "Don't mind us, we're joined at the hip. I'm Micky, he's Jim. Two Molson Canadian beers please."

The bartender, feeling slightly awkward, tries to make polite conversation while pouring the beers. "Been on holiday yet, lads?"

"Off to England next month," says Micky. "We go to England every year, hire a car, and drive for miles, don't we, Jim?" Jim agrees.

"Ah, England!" says the bartender. "Wonderful country ... the history, the beer, the culture..."

"Nah, we don't like that British crap," says Micky. "Hamburgers & Molson's beer, that's us, eh, Jim? And we can't stand the English; they're so arrogant and rude, not civil and polite like us Canadians."

"So why keep going to England?" asks the bartender.

"It's the only chance Jim gets to drive."

Former member of the British Empire, current member of the Commonwealth. We even have the Queen here to celebrate.

One of the most touching tributes to Canada I've ever heard was delivered by everyone's favourite clown, Red Skelton. It was a takeoff on his Pledge of Allegiance.

I live in BC, I don't speak French, I'm an ex-Yank, but my contribution to Canadian culture is that I always sing the anthem in its original French!

More people per capita come to Hawaii each year than from any other place. In fact here in Kailua we used to have the only Smitty's outside of Canada (sadly, they closed some years ago). So warmest Aloha from Hawaii and keep spending money here - our economy needs it!

You can't lose with Hawaii's beaches, weather and best of all, people. When I was a kid we always spent Spring break and/or Christmas there. It remains one of my favorite places.

A legal point of entry is 50 miles from the Pacific Crest Trail. The only way to truely protect the US is to control the border around North America. Travel within N.A. should not involve customs. That is for another thread or forum though.

Definitely doing it. I still haven't booked my Vancouver hotel, but I'm planning to go up Friday, do the ride to Whistler Saturday, and then (possibly) ride back to Vancouver Sunday morning.
