Bike has a fair bit of paint wear, but it looks like garage wear not riding wear? Scrapes and nicks on the frame but the components seem in much better shape.

CrMo frame (Tange?):

Shimano 200GS components make it '91-92 from what I could find:

From that same reference, I decided it was a '92 because my crank is an FC-M202:

not FC-M201 or FC-M200. The crank datecode however is "PH" which appears to be 1991 (http://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm#shimano) - likewise the Front derailleur FD-M201 is "PC" and the rear is also "PC" coded (also 1991s). The seat however has 91 11 molded into it - I initially assumed that was the 11th month, but maybe it's 11th week?

How then to explain the FC-M202?

Anyway - I gave <gulp> $100 for it.... Fool or find? (It's a keeper to ride and fiddle with.)

TIA,
Richard

If you bought for yourself or a family member then I think you paid a reasonable price........if you bought it to flip you paid to much. Some of those old Hard Rock's are built like Sherman tanks and they make good multi purpose bikes.....kids, commuter, grocery getter, etc.

Thanks, edited to show - it's a keeper, not a flipper!

This is close to what they go for and that depends on the market. I sold this 1991 one in the dead of winter here for $75 (and it is in worse shape than yours) :

$100 to $125 is the norm around here, you did fine.

I just bought that exact year and model. He wanted $75 for it, so I paid it, plus gave him another $50 to deliver it since he was more than an hour away.

I took it for a 14 mile ride yesterday and loved it.

You paid $100 for a bike that typically sells for $100. Ride it and don't worry about the cost.
