ugghhhhhh...... I know you are trying to be nice or whatever, but if you have passed me already just turn right. Don't wait up for me. This is more unpredictable and dangerous. Now the people behind you have stopped because they don't know what you are doing and I have slowed down because I don't know what you are doing. Just go already!!

Well mikey, sorry if I was unclear to you the first time let me explain it better for you. But I was coming home a few minutes ago and a car passed me to turn right. But then I guess they saw that they passed me and panicked or whatever and then decided to wait on me before they turned right. If they had just gone ahead and turned then there would not have been a problem but instead I'm slowing down because I don't know what they are doing, the people behind them don't know why they are stopping in the middle of the road. This has never happened to you? I'm jealous.

I think it's about someone who passed FlyingWeez to make a right turn, realized they might hook him, and then just kind of stopped. Maybe the driver reads BikeForums. :twitchy:

The trouble is that some of our fellow cyclists are pretty stupid and just keep going when a car is turning right in front of them, passing on the right and causing a near collision. So drivers are overly cautious.

what I do is change lanes and pass them on the left if there is no other traffic in the way, or stop and out-wait them. Unfotunately, even in that situation some other idiot cyclist has shot past me and nearly collided with the car.

What the driver should do is merge into the bike lane, or virtual bike lane (ie. hug the curb) before turning, but even then some idiot cyclist will probably try to squeeze by or will yell at them or make a gesture.

Also, if there is a lot of right turning traffic at a corner, I find that taking the lane early avoids the situation.

If traffic is light this some pretty good advice, if not I guess I'll just try waiting them out next time.

I know what you are saying - cars do this all the time when I am riding to work... I usually just give them a motion with my hand for them to turn that they can see in their mirror, and they usually go.

I've been known to say aloud: "just drive your car" cuz it's like they forget what they're doing. they're stunned and don't know what to do. sometimes at lights they wait for me to go. why? they're just gonna have to pass me. so sometimes ai wait when I get the green ans turn my head as if to say: "you first" sometimes I'll even let a handful of cars go so they don't have to pass me

Works about 80% of the time. Some are still scared to turn right in front of me.

Cyclists on this board are forever complaining that motorists misjudge the bicycle's speed and cut them off as a result. Now, when the motorist plays it conservative and is clearly waiting for the bicyclist to proceed, he's an obstructionist of a different sort.

I'm sensitive to the OP's point, but putting my motorist hat on for a moment, jeez, you can't win.

I always make it a point to put one foot on the ground when I stop. This way the cars just go around me and get out of the way. When you do a track stand they always slow down not knowing what you're going to do.
