HEMA is a Dutch department store. The first store opened on November 4, 1926, in Amsterdam. Now there are 150 stores all over the Netherlands.

Take a look at HEMA's product page - just wait a couple of seconds and watch what happens... DON'T click on any of the items in the picture, just wait...

This company has a sense of humor and a great computer programmer.

That's neat. Too bad Target can't come up with something as creative.

I would buy something from that store whether I needed it or not.

Me too.Target, and all of American retailing for that matter, has to be serious about making money. The leaders at HEMA most likely have it figured out that people are gonna spend thier money anyway, on the stuff they need - so why not lighten up a little? The customer is bound to like it and so be a more loyal customer.

and an unimaginative creative department.

This website reminds me of a old computer game called the Incredible Machine. You assembled a Rube Goldberg type machine to obtain a goal. It was pretty cool.

and an unimaginative creative department.

Really? I thought this application of playful interaction/Rube G. and cause/effect was clever, entertaining, humorous and very original. Oh well.

Rube's machines always actually performed some task (typically quite trivial) in an extremely complicated way, I thought - and rarely in a linear fashion, vis-a-vis the German video. That was moderately interesting, and clever, too, but seemed like more of a domino setup by chemistry students with too much time on their hands. Leave it to some Germans to misinterpret a Jewish cartoonist's concept.

I'm German and my wife is Jewish, so I can say that. :D

No offense intended to any ethnic, academic or religious groups, or Botto.

To each his own, I suppose.

Thanks, dahut!

Yeah, there's always someone to complain about a free lunch.

You gotta be willing to give credit where its due. As for Target, they do have the little dog, dont they? :)
