Northern California - July 5th East Bay Ride - BF kit get together?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Need to work off that beer and BBQ? Come ride in the East Bay with some of us on Monday. (Non BF-kit riders also welcome.)

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=150657

Plan to start from Orinda BART (meet at the station entrance) at 8:30, I plan to be finished between 1 and 2pm. Multitude of route options, but here's a starter, only ~53miles but could be extended depending on who shows. I recommend staying closer to the ridgeline to keep cooler than heading inland. Here's the text version for locals:

BART to 3Bears
Peel off to climb Happy Valley
Lafayette to Acalanes
Moraga Way to Climb Pinehurst
Down Shepherd Canyon to Montclair for a pitstop
Back to Tunnel then Grizzly Peak
Golf Course, Shasta then down Wildcat and back

Bikely is being a pain right now, will come back with a route map when it's working again. EDIT- went Bikeroutetoaster instead

I believe we have a definitely maybe from:

bikeroutetoaster is way better anyway. :P

I'm fine with whatever route. Can't wait to get out and feel silly with team colors. My jersey is painted-on tight!

You're right Chris. Fixed, as they say round here.

I haven't used bikroutetoaster. I typically use ridewithgps to plot my routes.

Anyhow, I'm in. It's the only day I get to ride.

If we knew when we were coming down Moraga Way, I could get my son to take a pic of us in formation (I.e. The team time trial look). Make sure that you wear your aero helmets.:)

Will we have parking restrictions at Orinda Bart?

It's a holiday for a lot of people. I think it would be OK to park there... But any locals know the rules?

BART is treating Monday as a Sunday, the web site says you'll be fine - no payment needed

I'm in. I'll most likely ride from Berkeley if anyone wants to join.

BTW, if we're feeling frisky we could turn back up the hill from the Montclair pit stop and do Snake>Skyline>Grizzly and then continue Beaker's route. Snake is a good little climb.

Am I going to be the only outcast without a kit?

BTW, the weather looks to be cooling off nicely tomorrow:

I'll be another outcast, wearing this.

This looks like it'll be too much for our tandem team w/our current state of climbing skillz.

Come on now, ahmose could use a carpool buddy to the ride. How about on single bikes?

Nuts. I complain about how few rides are posted here anymore, but when they are, I'm in no shape to attend.

Ah well, enjoy, everyone! Let's get a paceline picture of new jerseys like the picture on the Golden Gate with the previous ones!

FWIW the climbing is all split up, so there are not particularly arduous long climbs.

To be frank, I'm in no shape to my own ride having ridden my bike only 3 times in the last 9wks but what the heck. There'll be a range of abilities, and it should be fun. Only sad note is the lack of female riders here again. :(

Actually, family decided to ride in the car with me and spend the day in Berkeley. I plan to take the Bart and meet up with them after the ride. I hear that La Mediterranee (http://www.lamediterranee.net/pages/lamedberkeley.html) is quite the awesome place to eat.

Anyone leaving from the Modesto area (Carpool)? I am interested, but I doubt I will be able to make it to Orinda by the 8:30am departure time.

But now it's 11:30, my bike is probably buried behind other bikes in the garage with squishy airless tires and my car has no rack installed.

So unless scotch gives me Super Sleep Powers™ and I can get out of the house by seven, it seems unlikely. :)

Have fun out there guys/gals. I won't be making it for this ride, hopefully we can plan another BF ride soon.
