We are experiencing mild recumbut (sore left butt) :( on our new V-Rexes. What can you advise to help us deal with this problem. It occured after about 45 miles of riding today to both Judy and I

Ken,
While I have not cycled as far as you, yet (31 miles is my longest distance) the people I ride with have done your distance plus (one of my riding partners is in excess of 5,600 on a Slip Stream). They tell me recumbutt comes from not having your seat set properly.
I like them have set my seat as follows, loosen your seat and while seated on it place one heel on a pedal, bring that pedal to it's furthest point, without taking your heel off the pedal adjust the seat till there is a slight bend in your knee, at that point lock your seat in.
I do not know if this is the end all solution, all I can tell you is it works for both them and myself.
Recumbent butt can be seat related or muscle related from using muscles not used as much as on
regular bikes. Both tend to get better as the rider acclimates to the bike. Minor changes in the
seat angle and distance from the pedals are usually suggested if the problem exists. But rather
than jumping in and changing things try riding the bike for a month or so to see whether you adapt
first. Steve
Reclining the seat to unload some of the weight from the posterior should do the trick. I've also read that lactic acid can build up in the glutes and make your butt sore. I've had minor cramps in my glutes a couple of times, nothing major though. Grabbing a lower gear, spinning a higher cadence, and relaxing does the trick.

Recumbutt after 45 miles is pretty normal

Never had it on the BikeE ATs and we regularly ride 50 or more miles a day on weekend rides and consider 24 to 32 miles a "short" ride. We have increased the angle of the seat backs (lowered the backs) and that has seemed to have helped some.
