Road Cycling - Dream Bike with Unlimited Budget

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Maybe someone has asked this before, but I'm just curious. Say you hit the lottery or could somehow create a dream bike without worrying about money...What would you create?
I'm broke, so anything over $1,000 is a dream for me.

id just have richard sachs make me a nice bike the good ole traditional style... thin diameter tubing, flat fork crown, nicely and gently curved fork, aggressive angles, long point tapered lugs, RED, with contrasting and/or stenciled lugs

I'd probably go for some light CR1 with some nice Lightweight tubulars, Dura Ace 10 speed, and a whole lot of carbon everywhere. Only to 15lbs though, I wouldn't consider anything lighter to be fair for racing (even if they didn't weight the bikes).

Colnago Carbonissimo, Full Record Carbon group, American Classic carbon wheelset, Calfee carbon Bar/Stem combo, Easton carbon seatpost, Fizik carbon saddle, Time ATAC carbon pedals.
Then I would just look at it, as all the carbon bits would scare me at my weight ;-)

a cromo tt pursuit track frame (old school style) completely gold plated with gold plated njs components and gold campy pista. but I think you get the idea gold plated bike and i mean real gold
700c in the back 24" in the frond and yes gold with a gold plated disc in the back campy
it would look like some aztek god

Lemond '04 Tete de Course with custom Acme paint job. Rolf Prima Vigor wheels. The rest is still a work in progress.
It starts like this but will end up oh-so-different.

They already make my dream bike. Now I just have to win the lottery to afford it. Maybe if I'm really good for the rest of the year Santa will leave it under my tree with a big red bow!

I would have to go with a Seven Elium. Titanium and carbon fiber. I would have to clean it often because I would drool all over it.

I saw a couple custom Serottas in the shop the other day. Right there, in the shop, got an erection. Then saw the $8k tag, went limp. Wallet jumped outta my pocket and ran back to the car.
Frames: it too hard to choose.
Wheels: Either a set of ADA's or Lightweights

I'd probably choose Lightweights over ADA's. If you want me to get into it I could, but more or less I've heard more positive things about Lightweights (now made by carbon sports) than I have about ADA.
G'day,

Also would like a seven elium Race with Record, slightly more upright for centuries, long road races...

I really like these Kirk (http://www.kirkframeworks.com) lugged steel frames. Probably outfit it with campy centaur and traditional looking 32-spoke hoops.

I think it was cyclesport usa that had a pictorial feature on TIME awhile back, I was impressed. Very small shop, could've been a small cigar shop in Havana or a shirtmaker/tailor. They showed how the fibers come off the spindles and get spun and other stuff.
not sure if it was $7,200-cool, but cool nontheless

6 frames, 1 day of rest.

I've got one for each day of the week. .Actually, I'd like to have about 30 or 40 of the best bikes form each on the major companies, and mix them up. :D

I might have Sarotta special-build a frame, have Campy equipment with hand-built wheels from a top shop.

Here it is a question I made my self a million times. I would go mainly on traditional steel and aluminium with some carbon
Frame + Fork (threaded): Reynolds 853
Wheel set: Reynolds aluminium
Handlebars: Reynolds Aluminium
Stem: Nitto
Groupset: Campagnolo Record 10 speed Carbon (excluding of course wheel hubs and brakes)
Brakes: Shimano caliper, Dura-Ace
Tires + tubes: Vittoria
Saddle : Selle Italia SLR C64
Pedals: Look KéO
And of course, a bit of show-off a Ergobrain cyclecomputer

If I had to choose just ONE, it would probably be a Scott CR-1, or Ridley Damocles. But if hit for that much money I would have a bike for each day of the month.
My dreams aren't that exotic but I AM greedy!

this WAS my dream bike, then I bought one..:)
http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2003/tech/features/PRGW/bike_ch1825.jpg
Whatever I got I would be afraid to ride it because I would know that all the other bikers around town would be jealous and gunning for me. :)
I'd like to have the new Colnago introduced next September in Vegas :)
I'm sure it will be my impossible dream, as usual :D
my dream would be to meet Ernesto Colnago and have him build me a 4 custom frames. One steel cyclocross, one steel touring (for running errands), one mtn bike and one carbon fiber.
the touring and road would have campy record (or whatever else is top of the line campy at the time of the build).
cyclocross--whatever is top of the line.
mtn bike: shimano saint group or xtr group.
maybe I'll even get two of each bicycle in case it's mate is in the shop.

There is no such thing. No matter how nice the bike and how much you spend, they'll be another, cooler bike out next year. This year's dream bike is next year's nice but year old cast off.

For my road race bike I'd take my existing bike and add the Campy Bora wheelset and the Campy carbon cranks. For my climbing bike I'd go with the LOOK 585 w/Campy Hyperion Carbon wheels and the basic kit I have on my 481. For my TT bike I'd buy the Pinarrelo Montello, that bike is pure sex. For my fixie I'd get the LOOK 496 w/Campy Pista crankset and Hed wheels.
