Hello all

I do love to go out and ride my bike. FAR FAR from a pro or even taking part in any kind of competition, just as fun, relaxing and keeping myself fit.

So, I also like bikes, and now I "need" a new one.

How is the bikes from Eddy Merckx? I know they are well made, but are they over priced? And a bike that a amateur like me has NO need for at all?
Like getting a Lamborghini when one only need a coupe?

Why I ask? Well, just the idea of a bike of that caliber is interesting, but as I say, maybe it is crazy.

Hope some can help me

Thanks for looking

If you intend to ride with family and kids a road bike is generally useless and frustrating. I've ridden my road bike and had my co-worker on his hybrid. I was coasting most of the time. If you want to do some local club rides or do some long distance rides than a road bike can be a blast. As you stated a road bike is like a sports car.... light, minimalists, and fast, but it will have limitation for partactical use. Don't try to go to the store and pick up anything. No provisions for a rack for instance. If you have the money go for it, but do it for the right reasons.

Happy riding,
André

I guess I'm not sure what your question is. Merckx has never made anything that is not pro level - that is to say that you can buy a new Trek or Specialized or Giant for under $750 - Eddy has never made entry level bikes, he doesn't make tricycles or hybrids or mountain bikes. Maybe the company will now that Eddy has been bought out.

Do you have a particular bike in mind?

I lover the Merckx brand; I like that Eddy chose the materials; I like that he designed the bikes; I like that he was involved in the day to day operation of the plant and that the plant was literally next to his home.

Eddy sells bikes on the low end too, not just pro stuff. The "lowest" is the AMX-1 is an Aluminum framed Tiagra equipped bike.

Hello

Well, I do seek a bike that I will use for trips with friends, out trying to keep fit. Not as a commuting or shopping bike.
I am seeking a bike, that is not like the rest out there, and the bikes from Eddy did come in my mind.

I do not need a pro bike, so I guess the AMX -1 will be good.....

Get a good frame-set , Go low-ball on the group-set , and all will be good ..
It will get you down the road.

But, get real, race bike frame designs are inappropriate for riding the MUP with the kids.

That's my point about the new company. Eddy himself did not sell junk.
