Anyone use any of the various Avid Single Digit brake sets? I'm looking to replace my Shimano 105 STIs and I like the idea of powerful, one-finger braking; preferably with no (or at least less) squealing.

Reviews of these brakes on other boards are all over the map, from "excellent stopping power, very reliable, easy to adjust and maintain, very strong for their simplicity" to "got play at the pivots, squealier than hell, need tons of adjustment, very flexy, generaly inferior."

I guess I should just find a shop w/ a bike that has a set and try them myself.

Thanks a bunch.

I've got a set and mine have squeeled very badly. I've heard reviews both ways and have friends who own them and their reviews and level of noisyness is all over the map too. I got rid of mine due to the noise that I could never get out.

brakes do not produce noise

noise is generated at the pad/rim interface

adjust/clean/replace them to keep them happy and quiet
