Hey everyone! I'm new to the site, living in Austin,TX for the month. I just returned from Afghanistan and will be moving back to Germany at the beginning of august. I currently own a 1979 Shogun road bike. It has a few surface rust spots and I am looking to rebuild it. Anybody have any tips or places I should look around for parts as well as how to deal with the surface rust? Thanks so much for your time!

Joshua

Welcome!

For buying ANYTHING bike related, I'm sure lots of cyclists will refer you to two places: Nashbar and eBay.

http://www.nashbar.com/

As for ebay, you can pretty much type in your part and it'll pop up somewhere. However, I have a personal recommendation. Bikemanforu has all kinds of stuff and he's the most reliable ebay seller I've ever bought from for ANYTHING. And on top of that, he has videos where he describes all of the parts inside and out and the installation. I'm building my own fixie and his videos help me out a ton because I'm not a very mechanically literate person.

Also, I'm assuming you're Army? Thank you for serving, I'm actually doing ROTC in college and might go in as an officer after college.

Thanks so much for the heads up! I am indeed in the Army. Joining as an Officer is definitely the way to go. Good luck. do you know much about rebuilding a road bike? I am REALLY new to this and would love some tips and ideas.
