I'm not sure if anyone has come across this before:

I have a mountain bike with a Shimano Hyperglide 8-speed cassette and a Shimano Altis dérailleur.

What is strange is the freehub body.

It looks like a standard Shimano unit, but when you remove the cassette, skewer, axle and bearings, so that you can remove the freehub body, the hex key required to remove it is much larger than the normal 10mm. :troll:

I haven't been able to measure the exact size, because the largest hex key that I have is 10mm.

I will have a look in my collection of bolts and see if I have one where the head is the right size to remove the freehub.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer may be?

Regards,
Roger :)

My Bontrager (not sure who makes it for them) freehub required an 11mm to remove. I could not find an 11mm, but a 7/16" (11.1125 mm) hex bit worked for me. When I bought the new freehub, it came with an 11mm hex bit.

The Bontrager freehub may be made by Hugi (so mumbled the wrench at the LBS).

I may have found and answer.

It may be a Ritchey Shimano Compatible Freehub Body.

They use a 12mm Hex key.
