I don't get it? Vertical packaging isn't "right" for toothpaste?

I don't get it either.
You have something against toothpaste being packaged in something other than a tube?

I don't see the problem, other than someone needs a new hobby...

If you saw crest, and didn't assume toothpaste, you just MIGHT be in the minority.

What I really don't get is the "after shave" hang-up in the description on Flickr. I guess I don't know what after shave packaging looks like.

Looks boring. Vertical packaging would literally make another product stand out. I'm surprised it hasn't been done sooner.

There are marketing folks out there who's job it is to make such packaging changes apparent to the consumer. Look at what happened to Tropicana when some smart-alec tried this out:

I did not like the direction the package was made in.

I noticed that it said toothpaste about two seconds after clicking on the link...
What's the problem?

Packaging is such a major part of marketing, and Proctor & Gamble is such a huge company, that we can safely assume the packaging was conceived, tested, and launched by capable people with big degrees and really nice salaries. I'm sure they're selling a veritable ****load of the stuff. It's on my bathroom counter right now for that matter.

Try that in a store when it's amongst half a million boxes of other toothpastes.

You can say the same thing about Tropicana, and look what happened to their capably-tested, new packaging.

Really. Next thing you know, he will be talking about this great toothpaste that he bought for $ 4.95, and it is the equal of toothpastes that cost $ 9.95, and he bought it over the internet at Crest Direct.
Well, one does lead to the other.

So are you a big fan of the plain brown label stuff that they used to have in the grocery stores?
Google images is totally failing me on this, but Stater Bros. used to carry the plain brown label groceries where I grew up in SoCal.

Look, say what you want, when Lance was training for his first bike race in middle school, he was using Crest, and often mentions it in interviews.

Only one question matters. Nobody cares if you like it, or I like it, or if Picasso or Lance or Pcad would approve. How much juice did they sell? Without that answer, there is no basis for comparison.

It kind of looks like orange juice to me. What's wrong with product rebranding?
Then again, I was annoyed when Apple dropped Garamond. Oh, and when they dropped the six-coloured Apple. And when CP Air gave up its orange livery:

The last one was particularly stressful for me as a kid.

Wow, how did that new packaging get approved?
Maybe it's the color, but the old packaging screams "Fresh" but the new packaging looks synthetic. The new packaging is slicker, like a fancy "modern" hotel -- Very clinical, no warmth. The old packaging's graphics reminds me of an old-fashioned roadside orange stand and gives me warm fuzzy feelings. :D

That livery is a sight better than all of the mostly-white planes flying aroud now.
I am.
I always thought it was funny cruising the aisles at Stater Bros. as a kid and seeing the stuff... like kraft-brown cans that only said "Beer" in black type on the front.

That's beautiful. Almost a shame CP didn't try it on some of their railroad rolling stock.

My parents shopped at a place called Pak 'N' Save when I was a kid. Not sure if it is/was a chain. They had similar generic items. I remember the beer cans being bright yellow with "BEER" in stencilesque black letters.
At some point since then, generics have felt the need to become "branded" and make buying generic items into a "rich experience" or somesuch thing. Meh.
Pak 'N' Save was owned by Safeway behind the scenes. The one at El Camino and Sunnyvale-Saratoga just got mowed down for a new Safeway.
